Trust the Process, Nicholls State edition

The famous Philadelphia 76ers motto over the past few years, “Trust the Process”, is something to which the Colonels can relate. Nicholls State University’s head coach Tim Rebowe was voted the top college coach in the state of Louisiana for the 2018 season. Rebowe took over the Colonels in 2015. Before Rebowe’s arrival, Nicholls State hadn’t had a winning season since 2007 when the Colonels finished 6-5 and fourth in the Southland. In 2014, Nicholls State went winless on the season by finishing 0-12. Rebowe definitely inherited an uphill challenge when he accepted the job.

Since Rebowe’s arrival, he has drastically changed the direction of the program. In his first year, Nicholls finished 3-8 on the season. This was a small improvement from the winless season prior to his arrival. The following year, the Colonels continued their improvement by going 5-6 on the season. This was the most wins since their 2007 season. The impressive improvement did not slow down. In 2017, Nicholls posted their first winning season in 10 years by finishing 8-4.

It was evident to see that Rebowe’s presence in Thibodaux gave fans hope for success in the future. 2018 was one of the best seasons Nicholls had seen in over 30 years. The Colonels went 9-4 on the season finishing with the second most wins in the program’s history. In 1986, the Colonels finished the season at 10-3. Nicholls also made their first appearance in the national rankings since 2007. Their magical run came to an end with a loss to Eastern Washington State in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Nicholls finished the season by securing the 14th spot in the national polls. Rebowe took a winless Nicholls team in 2014 to finishing the 2018 season as the number 14th team in the nation is nothing short of amazing.
