Teurlings Catholic rolls past Rayne on their way to 6-0

The 5-0 TC Rebels had a Friday night home game hosting a 3-2 Rayne Wolves opponent for their senior night festivities. Teurlings Catholic has started the season off looking like the best team in the 4A-Class and they further solidified that belief with another dominant win against a tough Rayne team.

WR Kylin Wheeler is that guy for the Wolves on offense and he immediately made his presence felt in the stadium, taking the opening kickoff back with Rayne jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead. The Rebels were not fazed though, as the offense would march down the field and get their first score of the game on a 4th down run from RB Doug E Viltz.

The TC offense was on fire in the first half with no chance of being put out. They had 42 first-half points and a key piece of their offense, senior RB Doug E Viltz, had 4 touchdowns in the first 2 quarters of the game. This kind of performance is not new to him and the team as he has been putting up big numbers all season long and giving the offense a great balance. When Viltz wasn’t involved, QB Alex Munoz had no problems getting things done through the air. He finished 9-12 for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns while resting in the second half.

The Rebels have weapons everywhere on offense and WR Kaleb Daniels made sure he got in on the fun as well taking a screen pass 78 yards, tight-roping down the sideline, all the way to the crib. This put the team up 35-6 with 1:29 left in the 2nd. But their defense was relentless all night and forced another 3-and-out, giving their offense the ball back with under a minute left. Doug E Viltz was at it again on this drive getting into the endzone with 10 seconds left in the half and putting TC up 42-6 at half after 42 unanswered points from the opening kickoff return by Rayne.

After the dominant first half, the Rebels allowed their offensive stars to get some extra rest while some JV players received some Varsity snaps. Rayne would make a few plays in the second half including a huge 50-yard reception by Kylin Wheeler to set the team up to score their final game score. The second-half touchdowns were scored by TC backup RB Cason Evans and Rayne RB Korey Malone. But this game had Teurlings Catholic written all over it with a very dominant offensive and defensive performance from the team.

TC moves to 6-0 on the season with a chance of finishing the season still undefeated. Their biggest challenge will come in 3 weeks vs St. Thomas More. Rayne moves to 3-3 on what has been a good season for them so far. They look to continue to get wins with 2 tough matchups in the upcoming weeks as well. They have Westgate at home next week and then travel to STM to face off against the Cougars.
