After having success last season in the round robin format, the fourth annual middle school showcase event once again has decided to branch out to not only two, but three different junior high teams across the state of Louisiana. Each team is represented by a different part of the state of Louisiana and every team would get to compete against each other in a three game round robin to decide which area of the state has the best 6th-8th grade talent.
Every team would get the opportunity to play twice in running clock games. Team Central Louisiana is the defending champion head coached by Glen Oaks head coach Anthony Jones and Ferriday offensive coordinator Devante Scott. Team North Louisiana is head coached by Richwood defensive coordinator James Taylor and finally, Team South Louisiana is led by St. Edmund High School head coach James Shiver, who was also the winning head coach of the 2022 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.
The winner of the three game series would be decided by either win-loss record, head-to-head, or in case of a tie-breaker, most points scored. With two full days of practice at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, Louisiana, it was time for bragging rights to be decided at Louisiana Christian University’s Wildcat Stadium.
Game 1: Team North Defeats Team South 8-6
Like last year’s game that was an 8-0 defensive battle won by Team North, it was very much the same to kick off the 2025 Gridiron Football Bowl Game series on Monday, December 29th. On the very first drive for Team South, James Taylor’s North defense came up big with a 40 yard interception return for a touchdown from Delhi Middle’s Deiavontae Williams to put the black team on the scoreboard first. That would be the first touchdown of many through two action packed days of football. Team North put an exclamation point to an incredible start with a two point conversion from Delhi Middle running back J’mar Perkins to give Team North an 8-0 lead early.
After both teams traded possessions, Team South would strike back as Northwestern Middle School QB John Caleb Johnson’s short screen pass to West Feliciana WR Tavaris London turned into a big play, 80 yard touchdown catch and run to pull Team South within two at 8-6. On the two point conversion, it was once again Team North’s defensive ball magnet Deiavontae Williams that got the interception and denied Team South the tie in the first half.
The third quarter was entirely possessed by Team North thanks to their mix of the ground game in getting Jonesboro Hodge’s Corey Campbell the ball and also a nice 31 yard pass completion from Gilbert Middle QB Nolan Wade to Haughton WR Jarvon Carley to set up a first down and goal. However, Team South was able to get a goal line stand led by Madisonville RB/LB Isaac Abram, who had a couple of tackles near the end zone. On fourth down, St. Edmund defensive lineman Scott Thomas Zaunbrecher recovered a fumble to give Team South the ball back down by two.
A couple of nice runs from dynamic West Feliciana running quarterback Thomas Haile got Team South on a good looking drive in the fourth quarter until Haile throws an interception to Team North S Cohen Hendrix from Sterlington Middle, but just when Team North was going to start to ice the game away, they give the ball away as Zaunbrecher recovers his second fumble to give Team South a chance. Parkview Baptist QB Brayden August delivers a 59 yard strike just before getting hit to West Feliciana WR Kalib Scott to set up Team South inside the 20 yard line.
It was going to come down to one final play as Northwestern Middle School QB John Caleb Johnson threw up a 50/50 ball on fourth down with seconds left, but the pass fell incomplete. For the second year in a row, Team North survives against Team South with an 8-6 victory to move to 1-0 while Team South came up just a little short to fall to 0-1.

Game 2: Team Central Defeats Team South 22-6
The second game of the day between Team Central and Team South was off to a great start if you like defensive play. First, Ferriday DB Michael Hart picked off Northwestern QB John Caleb Johnson, but then, Team Central gave the ball right back as CSAL LB Dawayne Johnson recovered the fumble for the first two possessions of the game. Team South was the first team to settle in the game as they put the ball in the hands of their playmaking running quarterback Thomas Haile, who had over 60 rushing yards on one drive alone highlighted by a five yard touchdown scamper to give the South team an early 6-0 lead.
Once again, both teams forced back to back turnovers with Team South’s Bubba Hathorn recovering a fumble and then Team Central getting their second interception of the game this time from Ferriday ATH Raheem Tolliver. It was not until late in the first half that Team Central finally got a little rhythm offensively. Ferriday RB Je’Caryous Norman got the drive jumpstarted with two first down runs and with 22 seconds left to go into half, the yellow team finally got on the scoreboard as Episcopal QB James Rieger connected with Ferriday ATH Elan Jefferson for a 17 yard touchdown. Team Central took their first lead of the game with a successful two point conversion run from Norman to give them an 8-6 lead over Team South at the end of the second quarter.
Team Central started off the second half where they left off in the first half, but facing a fourth down and one at the South 15 yard line, their hard hitting linebacker Isaac Abram came away with a big stop to give Team South the ball back. Entering the fourth quarter, it was anybody’s ball game with Central holding on to a two point lead.
However, the final 10 minutes belonged to Team Central. It was their playmaking defense, which already forced two turnovers, that gave them a cushion on a 26 yard scoop and score from Je’Caryous Norman to make it a 14-6 lead over Team South.
Towards the end of the game, a combination of a quick Team Central defense and low snaps from Team South was a deadly combination. Top Central defenders like Elan Jefferson, Delwin Royal from Northwestern Middle School, Je’Caryous Norman, and Raheem Tolliver were in on back to back sacks and another forced fumble, which was once again recovered by Norman. The fourth turnover of the game and the second straight fumble recovery from Norman led to the final dagger, which was a 13 yard touchdown run from Raheem Tolliver and then, a successful two point conversion pass from Tolliver to Elan Jefferson to make it a 22-6 lead over Team South.
The 22-0 run from Team Central punched their ticket to the championship match against Team North while Team South ended their day with an 0-2 record.

Game 3: Team Central Defeats Team North 20-8
The two stingiest junior high defenses face off against each other as the 2025 Gridiron Football Junior High All-American Bowl Game Championship was coming down to a winner take all final game between Team Central and Team North. Both teams won their first game because of their defense and that is how this championship battle got started.
The first half was scoreless between the two teams. Team Central had a promising opening drive, but Team North was able to hold the defending champs out of the end zone because of a high snap on fourth down and goal. That allowed Rusheon Middle School LB Jordan Lynn to sack Central QB James Rieger all the way back to the 30 yard line after originally having the ball at the one yard line.
The rest of the first half was highlighted by great defensive play. Team North forced a couple of turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play including an interception from Delhi Middle CB Michael Bradley and a fumble recovery from Ouachita Junior High’s Keoshay Allen, but the offense could not capitalize on those turnovers. Both teams went into the locker room scoreless.
Of course, it was going to be a defensive play that was going to be the spark for the first score of the game as Ferriday’s Raheeim Tolliver intercepted Team North QB Nolan Wade and returned the pick back to the 10 yard line. That interception led to the first score by Team Central, which was a 10 yard touchdown run from Je’Caryous Norman and then a two-point conversion run by Tolliver to give Team Central an 8-0 lead.
The next possession, the ball magnet Team Central defense was at it again with another fumble recovery from Ferriday’s Elan Jefferson. Once again, a turnover led to a Team Central touchdown and perhaps, the best play of the day, which was a 46 yard touchdown dime from Episcopal Middle School QB James Rieger to Elan Jefferson in stride to give Central some separation at 14-0.
Team Central’s playmaking defense did not stop either as they got their third turnover in as many straight drives with an interception from Buckeye CB Cason Curtis, but then, would give the ball back to Team North after throwing an interception to Elm Grove DB Karter Burts.
The turnover prone game continued with Team Central getting their fourth turnover of the game and this time, put the game away with a 50 yard scoop and score from Je’Caryous Norman to make it a 20-0 Central lead.
Team North would avoid the shutout by scoring their first offensive touchdown of the whole series with a long 70 yard touchdown run from Hamburg (Arkansas) RB Edward Moseby. A successful two point conversion run from Prairie View RB Jordin Harper made it 20-8, but it was too little, too late with the clock running out and Team Central repeating as Gridiron Football Junior High All-American Bowl Game Champions with a 20-8 victory.

Team Central Offensive MVP: QB James Rieger, Episcopal Middle School (Baton Rouge, LA)
Stats and putting up big numbers are always great metric to measure success for a quarterback, but perhaps, the most impressive stat is wins and championships. That is what Episcopal QB James Rieger did in leading Team Central to the 2025 Gridiron Football Junior High All-American Bowl Game championship. Rieger was efficient in both games as he threw a touchdown pass in both games to his number one target Elan Jefferson, who was also in the conversation for Offensive MVP. He put up solid numbers overall going 8/14 for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he also made the play of the day connecting with Jefferson on a beautiful 46 yard touchdown strike against Team North to help seal the championship. Rieger made plays when it mattered most and played some championship winning football by complementing a terrific Team Central defense.

Team Central Defensive MVP: ATH Je’Caryous Norman, Ferriday Middle School (Ferriday, LA)
To be honest, you can give the Defensive MVP to numerous amount of players on an aggressive Team Central defense that forced eight turnovers in two games like Raheeim Tolliver, who had two interceptions and a forced fumble to go along with 66 yards rushing and a touchdown on offense, but we decided to go with his teammate Je’Caryous Norman, who made history as the first player to win two MVP awards in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game. After leading Team Central to a championship with a Defensive MVP performance in 2024, Norman did it again in 2025. Norman, who also had 69 yard rushing, a touchdown, and a two point conversion on offense, was all over the field with 2.5 tackles, 0.5 sack, 2 TFLs, 1 QB hurry, 1 PBU, 1 FF, and 3 fumble recoveries including 2 that were returned for touchdowns. With Ferriday on the rise, there is no question that two-time MVP Je’Caryous Norman will be a player that Trojan fans will be excited about in the future.

Team North Offensive MVP: RB Edward Moseby, Hamburg Middle School (Hamburg, AR)
For most of the two games, Team North relied on their stingy defense to get them to the championship game, but James Taylor’s squad finally hit on a big offensive play towards the end of their game against Team Central. It was too little too late by that time, but it was Edward Moseby’s 70 yard touchdown run that gave fans something to cheer about. The Hamburg, Arkansas native solidified being the offensive MVP with that last minute touchdown.

Team North Defensive MVP: DB Deiavontae Williams, Delhi Middle School (Delhi, LA)
While Edward Moseby accounted for the only touchdown for Team North against Team Central, it was Team North’s Defensive MVP that accounted for their only touchdown against Team South. Delhi Middle School (Delhi, LA) DB Deiavontae Williams made the deciding play in the first game by having a 40 yard interception for a touchdown to give them a 8-6 win over Team South. Like Team Central, there were plenty of candidates to go on for the Team North defense that forced five turnovers including four interceptions. Corey Campbell, Keoshay Allen, Cohen Hendrix, Jordan Lynn, and others were also worthy candidates, but it was Williams’ interception that was the most impactful.

Team South Offensive MVP: QB Thomas Haile, West Feliciana Middle School (St. Francisville, LA)
When Team South needed a spark on offense, they put the ball in the hands of their playmaking running quarterback Thomas Haile. Compared on the broadcast by 446 Sports to Jayden Daniels, it was definitely a good comparison as Haile’s legs were an X factor for James Shiver’s offense. In two games, the West Feliciana Saints quarterback had 147 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground. His dynamic ability to beat defenses with his legs and arm will get Saints fans excited in the future.

Team South Defensive MVP: LB Isaac Abram, Madisonville Junior High (Madisonville, LA)
Even though Haile and Team South Defensive MVP Isaac Abram did not lead Team South to a championship, their individual performances were definitely some of the most impressive throughout the whole junior high series. Abram, who hails from Madisonville Junior High School in Madisonville, LA, was a tackling machine. Not only was he the leading tackler of the entire series with 13, but he made his impact felt making some big hits in some crucial situations including on a fourth down stop and during a goal line stand. Abram’s aggressiveness and high football IQ lead a Team South defense that certainly kept them in both games.
