Southeastern vs. Lamar Preview September 21st at 7 P.M.

Southeastern Louisiana Lions come back to their home at Strawberry Stadium to play The Lamar Cardinals. Southeastern is coming into this game ranked 21st in the country after blowing out the highly touted and 6th ranked Jacksonville State 14-35 in week one. There is a lot to look forward to if you are a Lions fan. They played a very competitive game against Ole Miss, if the Lions don’t turn the ball over 4 times or allow a kick return for a touchdown, they win that game. Lamar also played an FBS SEC opponent last week in Texas A&M, they got blown out 3-62. The game is set to kickoff Saturday September 21, 2019 and will be available to watch on ESPN+.

Southeastern is a well-balanced team, they have a good run game, they have a solid passing game, and their defense is stout. If they can limit turnovers, they won’t lose many games this year. The Lions offense can beat teams in quite a few ways, as they have playmakers all over the field.

Lamar is 2-1, after stomping on Bethel University 16-65. Week 2 they squeaked out a victory against Mississippi Valley in overtime 20-23. Mississippi Valley is not a good team, despite winning the game it does not look good for Lamar.

This game represents the Southland conference opener for both schools. The Southland is very competitive, but there is a very real chance that Southeastern continues to surprise the nation and win the conference. The last time one of these schools won the conference was 6 years ago in 2013, when Southeastern went 11-3 and 7-0 in the conference.

Keys to Victory

If Southeastern is able to control the ball and stay on the field, they will very hard to beat. When the Lions beat Jacksonville State, they dominated the time of possession. Limiting turnovers should be a priority for this coaching staff.

If Lamar is able to establish a running game early, they will have a good chance to win this game, their offensive style is run-centric.

Prediction

Southeastern will control the game and win easily, but it won’t be a blowout, 34-21.
