Southeastern Falls to Tulane

The Southeastern Lions could not get the win tonight against the Tulane Green Wave, losing the game 35 to 20. The Green Wave just outplayed the Lions tonight from the beginning. Southeastern could not stop the offense of Tulane, as they came up with score after score. In the first half of the game the Green Wave went on a 21-0 run, which had them going into halftime with a 21 to 3 lead. The Tulane offense was led by Freshman QB Tanner Lee who went 14-30 for 238 yards, 3 TDs, and had 2 interceptions. Even though the Lions seemed to be outplayed through most of the game, they started to close the gap in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, two turnovers in the fourth quarter sealed the fate of the Southeastern Lions. The turnovers came by way of an interception thrown by Lions QB Bryan Bennett, and a costly fumble with only 4:36 remaining in the game.

Even though Tulane got the win, Southeastern fans should still keep their heads held high for the way Southeastern has played thus far in the season. The Lions still have a very good QB in senior Bryan Bennett who went 16-34 for 213 yards, and 1 TD. Of course Bryan Bennett did throw 2 interceptions, but these are mistakes that a talented player like Bennett can correct early in this season. The Southeastern receiving core was led by senior WR Devante Scott who had 5 receptions for 93 yards. Although the rushing game was not the best for the Lions, the rushing leader in this game was junior RB Kody Sutton who had 7 carries for 22 yards. The Southeastern defense came up with 2 interceptions both by senior LB Isiah Corbett. The Lions will look to work on their mistakes before next week’s game against SE Missouri State, which will be another away game. I believe the Lions will have no problem bouncing back from this lose with a big win next week. GO LIONS!
