One of the biggest opening statements from jamboree weekend throughout the state was when Ruston dominated West Monroe 27-6 in the Bayou Jamb finale.
After losing 42-14 to West Monroe last season, the Bearcats used that blowout loss as motivation and took it out on the Rebels with their dominant play on the field.
Ruston quarterback Jaden Osborne was in control completing eight passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. The Bearcats offense piled up 195 yards of offense while the defense only gave up 113 total yards. The Bearcats also scored defensively when an errant option pitch allowed Jadon Mayfield to scoop and score. Star running back Dyson Fields was held in check by the Rebels defense, but still managed to score a touchdown.
The Rebels’ only score occurred when quarterback Hayden Federico threw a 65 yard touchdown pass to David Moore. Both teams will meet again in Week 10 of the regular season. The Bearcats will open the regular season at home against Warren Easton. The Rebels will open their season against Sterlington on Friday.
