Rising Star: Tysen Burks

Tysen Burks is a 5’10 156lb. starting QB alongside Wide Receiver/Cornerback at the age of 14 from Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School in Jonesboro, LA. Tysen’s versatility allows him to be a threat on both sides of the ball and execute as a team leader. Burks talents were recently showcased in the Gridiron Football All-American Junior Bowl Game.

Q&A with Tysen:

What inspired you to start playing football and how old were you?

I was eight years old when I first started playing football. I stopped playing in 7th grade because of little to no play time, but I started back in 7th grade. Now I am the starting QB in my 8th grade year.

Do you currently play any other sports beside football?

I play basketball as well.

Do you have a favorite preference on the offensive or defensive side? How does it differ for you?

Offensive, because I get to be a leader, control how we play, and feel in control on the field as a quarterback.

What is your favorite football memory so far?

This year in my 8th grade season when I threw my first complete pass.

Who is your role model in football and why?

Lamar Jackson because his playing style just reminds me of myself playing.

Which part of the game day experience is your favorite?

My favorite part is when the team is getting ready and hype before the game.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to play in the NFL.

What is the most challenging aspect of playing football?

I would say reading the defense and knowing where to throw as a QB.

During the offseason, how do you use your time to try and get stronger every day?

Going in the weight room and running the track.

What position do you see yourself playing in the next level?

QB or cornerback.

How do you learn to build trust and communicate with your receivers?

In practice I’m always throwing the ball to them and as they catch more, they earn my trust.
