Northwestern Trip

Working alongside with LGF has been a great opportunity. This internship has taught me a lot about myself. I have been able to work on my skills as a marketer, promoter, and salesman. These are all very valuable skills in the working world today. It has been a great experience working with people who are so passionate about football. Andy the owner of LGF and Ben the Director of Football Operations are so incredibly passionate about what they do. It is inspiring listening to them and how they talk about football. I have been learning more about football then I thought I ever would. They literally eat, sleep, and breathe football and it is really cool being a part of something they fully stand behind and believe in. LGF’s main goal is to bring as much positive attention to all the 12 football programs in Louisiana. We want to promote the schools in such a way that the entire country can see the depth of Louisiana football.

Last week I was able to ride along with Andy, Ben, and Kevin to see how the Northwestern State Demons have been getting ready for the season. It was about a three and a half hour drive to watch practice and it was well worth it. At the end of practice we were able to interview the wide receiver coach and the head coach for the Demons, Jay Thomas. It was satisfying to know that our job was to help promote the Demons and get more positive publicity out for the rest of the country to see.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was being able to listen and learn from the Demon coaching staff on how they were preparing for the season during the spring training. It was crazy to me how Jay Thomas the Head Coach was able to take time out of his busy schedule and not only let LGF interview him but also just visit with us for a solid half hour to 45 minutes after the interview. I felt that he really cared about what we at LGF stand for and really enjoyed talking with us about his memories. I won’t forget when Coach Jay Thomas was sharing his favorite memories as a demon and his past experiences. The passion about football in the room between Jay Thomas, Andy, Ben, Kevin, and myself was unreal.

It was pivotal for me as an intern being able to experience the behind the scenes preparation during spring training. To see what goes on to help the Demons prepare for the upcoming season. I know Jay Thomas was very pleased with the recruiting class they were able to get for the 2015 class and the new added depth that will make the Demons a tuff team to battle with during the season. I know that the coaching staff for the Demons is 100 percent behind the team and all believe in what they are doing. With such a strong backbone, support system and history behind Northwestern State I will not be shocked when they start to become a powerhouse program in the near future.  As Coach Jay Thomas said and demonstrated at the end of his interview “Fork ‘em Devils.”
