McDonogh 35 shuts out Douglass for first district title since 2019

For the first time since 2019, McDonogh 35 are district champions after defeating Douglass 31-0.

The Roneagles led the entire game and built a 19-0 lead going into halftime. A big reason for McDonogh 35’s dominance was due to the strong performance of its defense. The Roneagle defense held Douglass to just 109 total yards of offense and had 10 sacks.

Because Warren Easton’s season was canceled to due LHSAA violations and Abramson was defeated by both McDonogh 35 and Douglass, Friday’s night game between the Roneagles and the Bobcats determined the 4A-11 district champion.

Senior wide receiver Jami Hill caught the first touchdown for the Roneagles after he snagged a 16-yard pass near the pylon on a throw from Santana Price for a 6-0 lead with 2:27 left in the first quarter.

Price set up another Roneagle touchdown when he scrambled for 18 yards before being pushed out at the one-yard line. On the very next play, Price would find the endzone to make it 13-0.
On McDonogh 35’s last drive of the first half, Price scored his second touchdown of the game on another 1-yard run to make the score 19-0.

Star sophomore wide receiver Jakai Anderson opened up the second half with an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to give the Roneagles a 25-0 lead over Douglas

After a quick three-and-out gave the Roneagles great field position, McDonogh 35 quickly went down the field and finished it off with a two-yard touchdown run by David Phillips.

The Roneagles will finish the season with a 6-3 record as they picked up an automatic win with Warren Easton forfeiting next week’s game due to the cancellation of its season. Douglass will finish the season 5-5 after their game was forfeited due to Carver Collegiate Academy’s cancellation of its season in September due to LHSAA violations.
