LSU Picks Up Two 2025 Commitments Over Weekend

The number three recruiting class in the country continues to pile on with two more commitments over the weekend for the 2025 class with one on each side of the football.

It all started yesterday evening when Hammond School (Columbia, South Carolina) three star tight end Mike Tyler committed to LSU over Duke and West Virginia. The 6’4, 230 pound tight end is another big receiving threat that the Tigers can utilize in their passing game. The South Carolina native has made a couple of visits this summer to Baton Rouge and it was clear that there was interest from both sides in the talented pass catcher.

Last year as a junior, he showed that he can make plays in the receiving game with 33 catches for 543 yards and seven touchdowns. He is rated as the number 38 tight end in the country and the number 12 overall player in South Carolina according to On3. This is also the second and most likely last tight end pickup for Slade Nagle as Tyler joins Sulphur tight end John David LaFleur.

Then, the Tigers got themselves a surprise today when four star cornerback Kade Phillips flipped his commitment from Texas to LSU. From Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, the 6’2, 185 pound cornerback is the number 28 player at his position in the country and number 31 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to 247 Sports.

Despite committing to Texas, the constant pursuit from cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond played a big part in flipping the big, physical lockdown cornerback. The return of one of DBU’s architects has come up big on the recruiting side as Phillips joins the number one cornerback in the country in DJ Pickett for the 2025 recruiting class, which now has 24 members.

This weekend was a great period for the Tigers coaching staff that worked diligently in winning over these two out of state prospects to help bolster an elite recruiting class.
