LSU Lands Former McNeese State and Marshall Safety Andre Sam

LSU gets their second transfer in the last three days as the Tigers land another defensive back from the transfer portal in former McNeese State and Marshall safety Andre Sam.

Sam, who is another Louisiana native, will return back to his home state and get the opportunity to play in the Purple and Gold. He was originally coming back to Louisiana and play for Tulane where his defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was going to coach in the same role with the Green Wave, but he chose to transfer to Baton Rouge where he will play his last season of college football.

The Tigers got even more veteran depth to fill a position of need in the secondary as the journeyman has been a great player at the Southland Conference level for the McNeese State Cowboys earning All-Southland Conference honors twice where he racked up 179 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and five interceptions.

After having a standout FCS career, Sam made the jump to the FBS where he earned Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference honors after racking up 53 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, and an interception at Marshall. At the beginning of his career, the Iowa, Louisiana native was a standout player for the Yellow Jackets where he had 31 touchdowns as an All-State wide receiver and kick returner.

Add in running back Logan Diggs, who came back to his home state of Louisiana after playing the last two seasons at Notre Dame, Andre Sam is another Louisiana native that will help the Tigers reach their goals of competing for a national championship this season.
