Even though it was the wide receivers that have won the most reps, it was the defense that actually frustrated offensive coordinator Joe Sloan by telling the offense that they needed to start winning those reps. From that point on, the receivers started winning some of the reps.

Colin Hurley threw a dime in the red zone session by finding Aaron Anderson before going out of bounds. Chris Hilton Jr. ran one of the best routes beating freshman Michael Turner on a double move. Perhaps, the best catch during the session was when tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton made a leaping catch in the back of the end zone from Garrett Nussmeier on Ju’Juan Johnson. Kylan Billiot also made a nice grab during the 2v2s. A receiver that needs to be talked about because of his consistency is Landon Ibieta, who has been solid throughout all camp during 1v1s and 7v7s. He is another target that the offense can look at if needed.

During 11v11s, the highlight of the day came when Zavion Thomas had an acrobatic grab for a touchdown.

Defensively, the secondary has shown much improvement in their communication and have been at least in position a lot of times to make plays. Now, the next step is for them to be more consistent in making those plays.

Recently, JK Johnson and Jyaire Brown have stepped up with consistent plays on the football. Johnson is putting himself in position to compete for one of the starting cornerback jobs while Brown, who is another Ohio State transfer, is getting some first team reps working in their nickel and dime package.

During 11v11, the biggest defensive plays were made by Harold Perkins Jr. and Jardin Gilbert with PBUs. The defense has been much more aggressive during fall camp whether it has been sending Perkins on blitzes or if it has been Major Burns from the STAR position.

There were two players that were banged up today in defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory and wide receiver Jelani Watkins. Watkins was stepped on during the red zone 2v2 drill while Guillory suffered a knee injury and was evaluated by trainers before heading off to the side.

More will be updated tomorrow as Brian Kelly will talk to the media to give updates on the team.
