Louisiana Tech rolls North Texas

Louisiana Tech improves to 2-1 on the regular season as the Bulldogs traveled to Denton, Texas to beat North Texas. The Bulldogs finished their 3 game road trip to start the season with a win over the Mean Green. Tech went 2-1 on the 3 game road trip; including a win over the University of Louisiana-Lafayette after losing big to Oklahoma. Tech went into halftime with a 3-touchdown lead and never looked back. Hopefully the Bulldogs can ride this two game win streak into week 4 as they play Northwestern State in their home opener. Go Dawgs!

Offense

The Louisiana Tech offense was on fire Thursday night against North Texas. Cody Sokol lead the offense from the quarterback position going 20/31 for 243 yards and 5 touchdowns. Sokol through three TD passes in the first half to give Tech a 21-0 lead going into half time. A solid rushing attack led by Kenneth Dixon complimented this passing game. Dixon carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards and one touchdown. Sokol did his best not to channel in on one receiver the whole game as 5 different receivers had 3 or more catches. Trent Taylor, Hunter Lee, and Josh Gaston all caught touchdowns Thursday night, as well as Paul Turner who hauled in two touchdowns to lead the way for the Bulldogs. If this receiving corps can continue to produce, the Louisiana Tech offense is going to be a force to be reckoned with in Conference USA.

Defense

The Bulldogs defense came out strong and only allowed North Texas to gain 2 total yards in the first quarter. Skip Holtz and the Tech coaching staff had to be pleased with this stat. The Bulldogs also shut out the Mean Green in the first half for the first time since the 2012 season. Nick Thomason led the way on defense with seven total tackles from the linebacker position. The Bulldog secondary held North Texas to a measly 175 yards through the air without allowing a passing touchdown. Hopefully this defense can continue to improve throughout the season to help the Bulldogs make a run for a conference championship.

The Bulldogs travel back home to Ruston for the first time this season to take on the Northwestern State Demons. This in-state matchup should be very interesting and fun to watch. Hopefully the Bulldogs can build off this 42-21 win and have an excellent game plan going into week four. Go Dawgs!
