LC vs. Sul Ross

On Saturday, November 8, the Louisiana College Wildcats took on the Sul Ross State Lobos in Alpine, Texas. The Wildcats were able to squeak out a one point, 26-25 victory against a tough, resurgent Sul Ross team.
While the Lobos went into the game with only one victory, and 0-4 in the American Southwest Conference, they have played back-to-back competitive games against some of the conference’s top competition. Sul Ross has a 1st year head coach that is leading his program in the right direction; the Wildcats knew they would have their hands full with the Lobos.
The Wildcat offense, a spark in past weeks, struggled early against Sul Ross. After flying high the past few weeks, the LC offense would have to dig deep in order to give the Wildcats a late lead. After falling to a late 11 point deficit, senior Ira Jewitt made the big play the Wildcats needed returning a kick-off for 6. After a failed 2 point try, the Wildcats would put their stiff defense onto the field in order to give their team a shot at winning. The defense responded the way any stingy defense would and put their offense back onto the field. A fumbled snap on a punt, the Lobos turned the ball over in Louisiana College territory. Receiver Shed Davis would score his second touchdown of the day, this one on the ground, giving the Wildcats a one-point lead after another failed two-point conversion try. The Lobos were able to march down the field on the LC defense putting the team in a first and goal situation late in the game. Freshman nose tackle Jacob Rush would make a critical play forcing a fumble that was recovered by LC closing the game. The Wildcats’ 26-25 victory marks the 14th time in a row that LC has defeated Sul Ross.
