The LSU recruiting train keeps on rolling for the Tigers as they snagged another commitment from the 2024 class in Klein Forest High School four star wide receiver Jelani Watkins. The speedy wide receiver from Houston, Texas made the announcement today on Twitter that he was going to commit to the Tigers.
At 5’9, 160 pounds, Watkins is a great athlete that also specializes in track where he won the Texas Class 6A 200 meter championship with a 20.54 time. The two sport athlete is looking for a strong senior season after his junior season was cut short with 12 catches for 221 yards and two touchdowns in three games. What sets him apart is his ability to make explosive plays in the pass game with his incredibly, quick second gear. Watkins has been offered by LSU for both track and football.
As the number 26 wide receiver in the nation and number 32 player in the state of Texas, the Eagles wide receiver chose LSU over three other schools that made his final top four, which were Arkansas, Texas, & Texas A&M. Wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson played a key role in his recruitment.
With Jelani Watkins’ commitment, he is now the fourth four star wide receiver to commit to LSU joining Joseph Stone, Kylan Billiot, and Michael Turner.
Overall, this is the Tigers’ 22nd commitment of the 2024 class that is ranked in the top 10 in the country.
