By nature, Louisiana residents are resilient. Life continuously sends unbelievable weather conditions their way. At the writing, rain continues to fall upon southeastern Louisiana. Baton Rouge and other low-lying areas continue to flood from two feet of rain. The residents continue to fight through the storm. Two local athletes are attempting to assist locals in their long road back.
Crescent City Kings QB Corey Kennedy and his brother, former New Orleans Saints DB Alden Darby ventured to Baton Rouge, armed with clean clothes for citizens. People feel tired, frustrated, and utterly heartbroken by the ceaseless downpour. Although Kennedy and Darby are only two men, their resolve to aid those in need should resonate as a shining example. Life is never about the possession you accrue, but the memories you make. Helping a stranger now could actually save a life.
Kennedy Interview: Kings’ QB Corey Kennedy commented on his inspiration and community reaction.
Why do people stay in Louisiana, given the severe weather? “There’s nothing like your hometown. Most outsiders would wonder why the people in Louisiana stay. What I’ve experienced about Louisiana is how beautiful a state it is. The people here are amazing. We feel like it’s our duty to make Louisiana better. Whatever natural disasters headed our way, we will overcome them.
Close view of the devastation: “Seeing all of this stuff happening right in our backyard is extremely hard to take in. I wish I could go out there and help everyone affected affected by these floods. As a community, we need to rally to help those who are struggling right now. That’s what is most important. Pulling together is the only way we can get through this tough time.
Message to Potential Donors: “I am challenging everyone that can, anyone who is in a position to do this. Let’s at least try to change where we’re at. It’s not about what you’ve got. What can you do for those who are less fortunate? Everybody is claiming they’re living well. Let’s give back to some people Where’s your heart at?” commented Kennedy.
