Acadiana High School is known for its many championships, but also for its split back veer offensive attack. The Wreckin’ Rams have done exactly that to their opponents over the year and a big key to their consistent success is always having a standout running back in the backfield. One of their running backs is 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Troy Kennerson Jr.
“It would say playing at Acadiana means toughness. At Acadiana, everyone will strive for you to become the best that you can be whether that’s on the field or in the classroom and I can say that from freshman year to now, I’ve grown a lot.”

At 5’6, 170 pounds, Kennerson may not be the biggest back, but what he brings most to the table is his explosiveness and contact balance.
“My strengths as a running back is explosiveness, speed, and dedication.”

The senior running back from Acadiana was tough to tackle this year as he has plenty of yards after contact when toting the rock this year. Being a relentless runner is something that he is most proud of when he hits the football field as he compares himself to another undersized runner that also ran the football with a purpose.
“I compare myself to Darren Sproles for sure. I say this because I’m a short running back myself, but just because you’re short, it doesn’t mean anything because you can still have the heart at the end of the day.”

Those attributes allowed him to have a great senior season in leading the team to the playoffs as he ran for 910 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 122 carries. Averaging over 7 yards per carry, Kennerson was productive every time he touched the football this season and this was while battling injuries throughout the year.
“I would grade my season a B only because I didn’t reach 1,000 yards at the end of the season, which was my main goal, but I was injured and had to sit out for four games and that takes a big chunk of yards from me that I should’ve had.”

Having over 900 yards on just over 100 carries is certainly impressive and Kennerson picked up some awards along the way by being named the Legendary Player of the Week for Week 3 against St. Thomas More and being a 2nd Team All-District selection on the football field. Along with his strengths, there were also some other factors that allowed Kennerson to have a good senior season.
“Ball carrier vision for sure is something that I was working on this offseason. I improved a lot on that in the previous season.”

Like a lot of other great senior players across the country that have made All-District or All-State, Kennerson was invited to take part in the 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which was played this year at Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, Louisiana. He believes that the experiences that he learned throughout the week can help him when he goes to college.
“I did enjoy the Gridiron bowl game, and it was an experience that I’ll never forget and I met a lot of new people. One thing that I took away from the bowl game was hard work means everything and just because you got to where you wanted to be doesn’t mean you should be satisfied. You should keep striving and pushing yourself to the limit.”

Adding to his already impressive resume as a football player, Troy Kennerson Jr. is an impressive all-around student athlete that has a 3.8 GPA and is an All-District selection as a soccer player. Although it is surprising that he has not received an offer yet, that has not stopped him from continuing his pursuit to play at the next level.
“I have the heart and the passion to play college ball and with my hard work on the field and in the classroom, I won’t disappoint.”
