NEW ORLEANS – Tulane head football coach Willie Fritz announced the addition of high school defensive end Nick Kubiet to the Green Wave 2017 signing class.
The 6-4, 240-pound Kubiet hails from Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Fla. He was a Florida Class 6A All-State Second Team selection by the Associated Press after compiling 90 tackles, 38 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks as a senior in 2016. He tallied 17 tackles in the Pirates’ first-round playoff contest. As a junior, Kubiet earned Class 6A honorable mention all-state honors by the Associated Press.
Kubiet was selected to play in the 2016 North-South All-Star FACA Football Classic, sponsored by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, and the 2016 Central Florida All-Star Game. Kubiet also competed for three years in track and field, where he won the district shot put title and competed in the Class 3A state regional meet.
Kubiet becomes the 28th member of Tulane’s 2017 football signing class. The Green Wave inked 21 high school seniors on National Signing Day on Feb. 1, and welcomed six student-athletes for the spring semester. In all, the Wave signed 23 high school seniors, three junior college transfers and two Division I transfers for the 2017 season.
Of the 28 additions, 13 are listed as defensive players, including Kubiet. Tulane signed five defensive linemen, four linebackers and four defensive backs.
