The Evangel Christian Academy Eagles got off to a great start in the Bayou Jamb with an impressive 14-0 victory over the Cedar Creek Cougars.
The Eagles started off the jamboree strong completing a 55 yard pass on the first play. However, penalties stalled their first two drives. After both teams were feeling each other out through the first two drives, it was Evangel Christian’s defense that stepped up and made the first big momentum play of the game as Zachary Partman intercepted a screen pass all the way to the Cougars’ 12 yard line. The Eagles capitalized off the turnover when quarterback Peyton Fulgham connected with Brayden Curry for the touchdown to put them up top 7-0.
Right before the end of the half, the Eagles got the football again and Fulgham once again hooked up with Curry for another touchdown to put the Eagles up 14-0.
In the second half, both teams had opportunities to put more points on the scoreboard, but it ended up being a scoreless second half with the Eagles taking the victory.
The Eagles will open up the 2022 season Friday against Neville while the Cougars will start their regular season against Glenbrook Academy.
