The Elton Indians had a breakout star last season in running back Makelin Lemoine, who emerged as a big time player last season en route to what was one of the Indians’ best seasons in program history going 8-4 and winning a playoff game.
While splitting carries with All-State running back Tristan Leblanc, Lemoine still managed to put up very impressive numbers with 1,600 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns last season. After a standout season, Lemoine is not satisfied and is wanting even more heading into his junior campaign.
“I feel as though I still have a lot to work on, but I’m getting there. I am working to have near or over 2,000 yards by district and at least get one offer.”

Both those goals are within reach for Lemoine as he is now the leading ball carrier with Leblanc’s graduation and college coaches are already starting to get noticed. At 5’10, 200 pounds with 4.6/40 speed, Lemoine has deceptive speed and can also run over defenders with his 350 max squat in the weight room. Earlier this offseason, Lemoine was a Top Performer at our Gridiron Football Elite Camp held at Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, Louisiana. Every position coach chose a top performer for the camp and it was Lemoine who was recognized as the top running back performer at the camp.
“I loved the camp as a whole. It was some great competition there and I was very satisfied with myself knowing that the LCU coaches saw me and that I got Top Performer. It also means a lot to know they are watching me.”

Although he is satisfied with his camp performance and offseason, Lemoine is still hungry to show that last year was not a one year wonder and that he has the potential to be one of the best players in the state.
“This offseason, I have worked on my footwork and my sign on offense in the backfield. Footwork, speed, vision, awareness, and being able to adjust to the defense are all qualities a running back should have and I am working on.”

Not just a one position and one sport guy, Lemoine also played both ways on the football field as a starting safety where he has played since his 8th grade year. His versatility and his all around athleticism allows him to excel in other sports besides just football.
“I play basketball which helps me mentally and I run track, which I have made it to regionals in the 100 and 200 meters since my 9th grade year.”

When not running for touchdowns, Elton’s rising star player is just a normal teenager that loves the outdoors.
“An interesting fact about myself is that I am a country kid at heart. I love horses and love to ride with my brother and family. I love spending time with my family and love going to Church on Wednesdays and Sundays.”

From riding horses to being the Indians’ workhorse back, Lemoine is the same person on and off the field.
“I want to have my degree in criminal justice and get in the juvenile system and help kids in need. I would like to thank God for even allowing me to make it this far. Also, my mom and father and my brother for being the people I can call on for help about things on the field and the college football life.”

Although Makelin Lemoine is still two years away from graduating, he is not wasting anytime in promoting himself in front of college coaches. He really likes the HBCUs like Prairie View A&M and he also likes nearby college McNeese State. However, Lemoine is just wanting a full opportunity to showcase what he is very capable of doing.
“I maintain a 3.4 GPA and I am committed to my academics. My coaches would describe me as disciplined and competitive. I take pride in being coachable and contributing to winning and being a very dedicated team player.”
