My Diamond in the rough is Sarod Baker coming out of DeSoto High School. Baker is a 5’10 185lb Junior for the team and has found incredible success for the team reaching 1,000 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns his Sophomore year. Currently Baker is a three star recruit with multiple offers from Power 4 programs like TCU, Auburn, Pittsburgh, SMU, and Kansas. Sarod had earned a Player of the Week Nomination earlier this season for his performance in a game against Miller where they won 77-7 and combined for 300 total yards and 5 touchdowns.
I was able to interview the Junior and this is what we spoke about.
“When did you begin playing football?”
“I began playing when I was 3.”
“What position do you play?”
“My main position is Running Back, but last year I had played in the Slot and a little Quarterback this year too.”
“Do you have a favorite player?”
“My favorite player is Dak Prescott because I am a Cowboys fan.”
“Do you play any other sports?”
“Yea I run Track to get faster but that’s it.”
“How are you maintaining both Academic and Athletics right now?”
“I am doing well I have A’s and B’s.”
“Do you have any offers at this moment?”
“Yes sir I have 19 offers from Auburn, SMU, TCU, UCF, Texas State, UTEP, Kansas and more.”
“Is there any school that has caught your attention the most?”
“Yes sir right now its TCU and I have also been talking to Kansas.”
“What do you plan on studying after high school?”
“Sport Management, anything with sports in it.”
“What has been your greatest challenge playing football?”
“I had caught an attitude at practice and my coach told me to not be mad anyone for my own performance. I took it personal and I have been playing my best since.”
“What would you say is your greatest strength?”
“I would say that its my ability to play multiple positions on the field?”
“Which of those positions do you enjoy playing the most?”
“Running Back.”
“Is there anything that you could improve upon?”
“Yes sir I think I need to trust my speed more and that I make cuts that I shouldn’t make. There was a game this season where my coach I didn’t have to make a cut and could’ve broke free for a touchdown.”
“Did you have a favorite game this season?”
“Waxahachie, I had 30 carries for 220 yards.”
“Do you have a favorite artist to listen to before games?”
“I like Rod Wave and NBA Youngboy.”
