I spoke with Elton Johnson from Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy, Class of 2029, who recently attended the Gridiron Camp at Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana. He shared that he takes the most pride in his yards per carry and yards per game, noting that they consistently rank high and reflect his impact on the field. In the weight room, he has built impressive strength with a 225 pound power clean, a 215 pound bench press, a 385 pound squat, and a 315 pound deadlift. As a running back, he is currently focused on improving his agility to elevate his overall performance. Off the field, he maintains a strong 3.8 GPA, showing his commitment to both academics and athletics.

Interview with Elton Johnson Jr:

What goals do you have for your upcoming season?

” My goals for the upcoming season is just to improve and increase my stats and to have a productive season to help my team to the dome. “

What made you start playing football?

” One day my mom came into my room and showed me this flyer on flag football and convinced me to sign up and I dominated my first few seasons and then I started playing tackle football and never looked back. ”

How has football shaped your plans for the future?

” Football has shaped my future plans because it makes me want to make it to the next level which is the NFL. “

What was your favorite drill?

” My favorite drill was the fire drills because it really displayed my work ethic and will to not give up and that’s’ really and will to not give up and that’s really what football is all about. ”

What skill do you think is most important for your position?

” The skill that is most important at my position in my opinion is your vision and ability to see the hole. “

How do you handle pressure during critical moments in a game?

” Just take it one step at a time and try not to see you as a high pressure moment and just as any other moment and opportunity to do something great. “

What’s the best advice a coach or teammate has given you?

” One coach told me to stay consistent seize opportunity and it was there for the taking. “

What are your biggest strengths?

” My biggest strength is my size, speed, and vision which is my ability to make big long plays which I am great at. “

How do you balance football with schoolwork and other activites?

” I try to balance it by taking it one step at a time and keep it specific schedule that implements football school and enough room for my other activities. “

How important is academics to you as a student athlete?

” Academics is everything to me as a student athlete you have to have good grades to play and get opportunities so I try to make that one of my main focus. ”
