DITR: Kameron Triplett

Kameron Triplett is an energetic 6’1 198 pound class of 2023 defensive back for Central High School. He maintains a 3.5 GPA. He has a 4.5 40 time, a 36 vertical jump, and a 4.1 shuttle. His awards include Offensive/Defensive MVP Award, MVP AT Bayou Elite, and he was the youngest player at the VTO Sports camp at age 13.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I love playing with my family and hanging with my teammates.

How did you start playing football?

I was 5 years old and my parents put me in BREC sports. I played football, basketball, and baseball and out of all of them, football was it. And you know when you play that one sport you just have a love for it.

What do you think sets you apart from your competition?

I have a good work ethic and I’m always dedicated to the sport. I always work with people outside of the school to keep an edge on anybody that I play that is my competition.

What are some things you do to prepare for games?

I watch film. I watch whoever I’m guarding to know “What’s his favorite route?” “What’s his release?” and just the atmosphere. There’s going to be a difference in practice and game day atmosphere. 

Walk us through what’s going through your mind on practice days and then on game days.

In practice, the first two days, Monday and Tuesday, it’s no playing around. You have to get everything, the game plan like which coverage we’ll run when they get in a certain formation. Wednesdays, you just go over it. Thursday is walk through. And game day, there’s no more talking, its game time. I’m going to war with my brothers and just hope that we can do the job to come out with a win in the end.

What has been a highlight for you so far in your football career?

Just how far I’ve come. I never thought I would be in this position to do an interview. And with my speed, when I was younger, I used to be slow. I never thought I would run a 4.5, jumping a 36 as a vertical. Everything I’ve accomplished I never thought I would do this.

What do you believe are your greatest strengths?

At my position, I’m more physical. You’ll never see a physical DB. I can really read routes and how they’re going to release.

What are some of your goals for the season?

My goal for this season, is to be better than what I was last season for sure and to get stronger and faster.

How would you describe your style of play?

I’m a physical DB.

What has been a defining moment for you in your football career so far?

Just going to a lot of camps. For those two schools Houston and Dartmouth to invite me, it shows that I’m getting recognized.

Who or what motivates you?

Family for sure, that’s what motivates me the most. And my dedication to it.

What is something you have learned from football that you are able to apply to your everyday life?

Being a good team player. Learning how to talk to people and being a good listener and hearing people out before I give my opinion.
