DITR: David Newton III Peabody Magnet (Alexandria, LA)

Welcome our latest Diamond in the Rough David Newton III the 5’10 155 pound running back out of the class of 2027. David is a quick running back that thrives in open field by making hard cuts to make defenders miss while also having the ability to slide off tackles from opposing players. David has an explosive first step out of the backfield that makes him a tough tackle behind the line of scrimmage. This explosion is displayed with his impressive 4.56 40 yard dash time that he most likely developed as a multi-sport athlete competing in both football and track. David recently had a massive game against Grant in which he had 5 touchdowns and 150 total yards in a win and he hopes to continue this production throughout the rest of the Peabody season.

Here’s my interview with David Newton III below!

What got you into football?

I was always physical in other sports especially in basketball and, it would cause me to not play because I was fouling too much apparently. So, I had never played football before up until my 8th grade year and my basketball coach told me to try out for football. At that point I didn’t know anything about football, I just knew whenever I got the ball to just run.

Was there a certain play that made you pick your position?

Well actually, the very first play of my 8th grade year. I told one of my teammates I was gonna score on my very first play and I did it.

Was there a player you tried to emulate?

At the time I was real heavy on Alvin Kamara. But, I couldn’t move like him cause I was too aggressive but Alvin Kamara was so smooth that I wanted to be like him.

Dream NFL teammate?

I feel like me and Lamar would go crazy on a option. But if we’re saying all-time it’s Tom Brady because I know we would win.

What’s your strongest attribute in football?

My quickness, quickness off the ball and with the ball. Also reading holes, and my blocking is very underrated.

What differentiates you from the rest of players in your class?

I just try to go harder. For me it’s not about other players in my class it’s really more like a mental thing. If I feel like I can do it I think I can 100%.

Dream college for football?

LSU is probably the top one. If you’re going to LSU you’re going to the league but, it’s not even about that it’s mainly about the culture.

Favorite football move to hit?

Probably the spin move. I can do it in a plethora of ways full speed, breaking tackles, or lateral it comes easy to me. How I learned it was back in 8th grade I would just truck people and both my coach and my dad would tell me that I couldn’t just keep trucking people. So I started to fake like a truck and then spin out of it and it would just come easy cause people wouldn’t expect it since they were used to me going at them.

Underappreciated part of football?

The whole running back position. Another one is the o-line cause they really go hand in hand, without the o-line there’s nothing.
