Carlos Leyva is a 6’3, 280-pound TE/T out of Comeaux High school in Lafayette, LA. This 2022 class prospect won’t let anyone get past him if he has anything to do with it. When did you start playing football?

I started playing football at age 11. I was playing in a junior league in the neighborhood where I grew up in.

Did you participate in any other sports growing up?

I started off playing soccer, but as I grew up I surrounded myself with friends who played other sports and it was fun being able to play with them.

What does football mean to you?

Football is a getaway. Even when it is physically and mentally challenging, being with my teammates and all of the people that I love brings me joy.

What are your biggest strengths on the field?

Being a motivator for those around me. No matter if it is during a game or practice, I always like to motivate others to be the best they can be.

What motivates you on the field to play your best football?

Football is a team sport. Knowing that I have a responsibility to get the player in front of me, by me doing my job it gets my team one step closer to that first down that touchdown. Successfully blocking, seeing my team gain yards motivates me and gives me hope.

What lesson has football taught you that you carry off the field?

Discipline. Throughout the whole process of football whether it be in training or during a game, surrounding myself with people who have the same motivation and grind mentality as well as knowing when it is time for you to step up as a player.

What players have inspired you?

The 49’ers left tackle, Trent Williams. He is a very elite player. His skill and ability as a player I hope to one day be at the same skill level

What is your favorite thing about playing football?

Being able to successfully do my job and never really knowing who is watching in the stands. With the possibility of there being a scout in the stands and them admiring how you play is

What has been your favorite moment playing in high school?

When all of my teammates and I are conditioning, grinding together. At the end of the workout when we are all so tired even though it is tough mentally and physically at the end of the day it creates a bonding experience between us as players.
