DITR – Brandon Blunt

Brandon Blunt is a 5’10”, 170 pound, class of 2025 wide receiver for Madison Prep High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brandon is a big play threat, as Madison Prep often sends him deep and one-on-one with defensive backs. Brandon didn’t see a ton of playing time as a Sophomore in 2022, but made big plays when his team needed him to. He should see an uptick in playing time in 2023 because of this. Brandon likes to model his game after three receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr., Justin Jefferson, and Odell Beckham Jr., and I think he does a pretty good job of imitating their play styles on the field. Off the field, Brandon holds a 3.6 GPA and runs track, and specific events being the 4×800, 800, and long jump. Brandon does not hold any football offers yet from colleges, but that should change in the coming year or so.

I had the chance to interview Brandon and here’s what he had to say:

Why and at what age did you start playing football?

“I started playing football at the age of 5, and the reason for it was because I saw my older brother John Joseph play.”

Have you always played your current position, or did you play a different position growing up?

“No, I started off playing free safety and running back when I was little, for the Westside Bulldogs in Port Allen, Louisiana.”

What sets you apart from everyone else on the field?

“What sets me apart from others is that I hold a grudge. I was always overlooked, or just not the right man for the job.”

What is your favorite accomplishment so far in your football career?

“My favorite accomplishment was when I played my first varsity game against Brother Martin. I didn’t  play as much, but when I got in and saw the band and crowd, I was happy that I had made it.”

What is your favorite memory of playing football so far?

“My favorite memory was when we beat U-High in the regular season. The intensity and energy from both teams was amazing and I cherished every moment from start to finish.”

How do you balance athletics and academics?

“I balance it by my free time; if I’m not doing anything, then I will most definitely do homework.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced on the field?

“The biggest challenge was getting those little butterflies out my stomach, but after 2 plays it be gone

What are you hoping to achieve in this upcoming season?

“What I’m hoping to achieve is to most importantly, stay healthy, and also to prove to others on why they should always bet on the underdog.”

What is your end goal for your football career?

“My end goal is to break records from highschool to the NFL, I also want to have DB’s remember my name.”

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned playing football?

“The most important lesson I have learned from football is that we all we got, no matter what argument we get in or what type of disagreement we get in we is family at the end of the day.”

How do you prepare for big games?

“I prepare for big games by staying calm and listening to music.”

What type of play style do you have?

“The type of play style I have is deep threat… I’m very athletic and could go up with 2 DB’s, but I also have amazing hand eye coordination and can catch the ball in difficult positions/situations.”

Lastly, who is the biggest role model in your life?

“The biggest role model is my Momma; hands down, she is the woman who drives me to be successful and she’s the one who constantly takes risks on me such as taking me to camps 5+ hours away and investing her time so that I can do something I love.”
