Diamond in the Rough: Ryan Browne

Ryan Browne is a class of 2023 post-grad quarterback out of Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York. He is 6’5 and weighs around 210 pounds. Ryan graduated from Venice High School last year but decided to attend Milford Academy for his post-graduate year. Ryan has a strong arm with great accuracy. He is very elusive in the pocket. Ryan senses pressure well in the pocket and does a great job of avoiding the pressure while keeping his eyes downfield on his receivers. Ryan has no problem with rolling out of the pocket and making accurate throws in tight windows. Ryan also has a great touch on the deep ball. His pocket awareness allows him to escape pressure, read the field, and make impressive throws down field with excellent accuracy. His incredible arm strength shows that he can make every type of throw on the field when need be. He has a high football IQ and does a great job of making good reads with his quick instincts. In 9 games, Ryan finished his post-graduate season with 2,931 yards and 29 passing touchdowns, both of those being new school records. He also ran for 4 rushing touchdowns and had a completion percentage of 68%. Currently, Ryan is committed to the University of Purdue.

1.  When did you start playing football?

Started playing the ball as long as I can remember

2. What would you say is your biggest strength or best aspect as a player?

I’m a winner. I’m a great leader and I have a lot of desire to win. I don’t accept losing as an option.

3. Did you have any personal goals for this season? If so, what are they?

My goals last season were to break the school season record in passing yards and passing touchdowns. I played three less games than the previous record holder and still broke both records.

4.What do you love about the game of football?

What I love about football is the bond you create with random people who become your brothers.

5. Football aside, who would you say is your biggest role model/someone you look up to?

My pops for sure. Football aside, he has still always been a great example of how to live life and manage your problems.

6.  Are there current NFL or college players that you study their film and model your game after?

Joe Burrow. He plays with a lot of swagger and confidence. He knows he’s the man and he plays like it, and I strive to be just like that. He’s also an awesome teammate which is the key to team and individual success.

7. What motivates you?

What motivates me is the opportunity to keep improving everyday to be the best player I can be. If I do that I think I can make it a long way.

8. If you could, describe a time that you might have experienced some type of adversity?

Adversity has been my whole life. When Covid happened I moved to Florida by myself without my family. As a 16 year old kid I was 1000 miles from home without my family locked in to achieve the goals I had set out for myself. Adversity continued when I had to go to prep school. I was given so many opportunities to make excuses but I put my head down and succeeded and I will continue to do that with everything that I do.

9. What have you learned about yourself while playing football over the years?

I’ve learned that I can have a great effect on people and that I am a natural leader. It is really important for me to look out for people and to build them up to be their best selves.

10.  What makes you special and different from the thousands of recruits trying to play football at the division I level?

What makes me different is my story. My story is all the adversity I’ve gone through. That’s not something many people have done. I will continue to face it and I will continue to overcome it because that’s how bad I want it.

11. Can you talk about the leadership aspect that comes with the role of QB?

Being a leader is everything. You can be the most talented player in the world but if you can’t win over the locker room and have a team play with you you can’t do anything. The team’s success is my success and that’s the most important thing a leader needs to understand.

12.  Lastly, if I could ask, what made you choose Purdue over all the other schools that gave you an offer?

I felt really at home with purdue. The coaches, the campus, the facilities, and the education. They really have it all.
