Diamond in the Rough: Micah Saucier

Micah Saucier is a senior at Pope John Paul ll High School who is not only the football caption but is also the senior class president,and the founder of the public speaking club. Micah is a very athletic middle linebacker, who plays every snap as if it was his last. He is always ready to tackle any obstacle that comes his way. Micah is hungry for a successful season for his teammates and himself. His work ethics exceeds the football field, he goes above and beyond in classroom as well. Micah Saucier is a well-rounded individual, but a force to be reckoned with on the football field.

Since you have taken on the role of being senior class president, how has that helped you become better caption in football to your teammates?

It helped me zone in and realize that I do have a lot more responsibilities. Make sure my guys can look up to me and, I be a source of inspiration to them. I can lead by example and leave a legacy at Pope John Paul ll High School.

What is one quote or motto that you follow and what significance does it have to you?

We have around 30 kids on our football team, and coach always says “We have the S.I.U mentality.” It is the “suck it up mentality” meaning if I get hit 5 times, I am getting back up 6, or 7 times. I take this to heart because, I want to be the best player that I can be. That no matter what, I always get back up and keep striving for greatness.

Who  inspires you to continue to be driven while trying to accomplish your goals?

I would have say I inspire myself to be driven because, I get a lot my motivation from within myself. At the end of the day you only have yourself to look up too.

How will football impact your future career that you aspire to have?

In the future I want to major in business, and hope to to become a entrepreneur. The leaderships roles that I have working with my team, making sure that everybody is doing their part, will translate well when I become an entrepreneur.

If I were to go to your high school and ask one of your teachers to describe Micah to me, what would they say in your opinion?

They would say that I am a hardworking and outgoing person. Also that I am very friendly, I am always trying to be a source of inspiration to others.

What age did you start playing football?

I started playing football when I was in the 5th grade.

Out of all the sports that you have participated in growing up, what was the determining factor that football was the sport for you?

It was the feeling that I have, it is an indescribable feeling to step onto that football feel. Football is a family sport, you truly have to have 11 guys on the field that all have one thing in common on their minds.

What is the is the first word that comes to your mind that describes yourself and why?

I would say driven, because I am always motivated and I truly want to see myself succeed. I am very passionate about the things that I do, I do not take things lightly. Every leadership position that I have, I put everything into it. I am just a very driven individual.

What is one interesting fact that you could tell me about you?

My personality, because to a lot of people I look mean on the football field but to their surprise they find out that I am a friendly and nice individual. I am always trying to find ways to help others.

What is one quality that you have that you can bring to a college football team and why?

I can contribute toughness, I handle adversity extremely well. I always keep my head up, I am never one to be down in the dumps. For example, if the other team scores I am ready to strap up and get after the next play.
