Diamond in the Rough: Malik Davis

Malik Davis is a 5’10 185lbs football player that plays both sides of the ball at safety and running back for Sterlington Highschool in Sterlington, Louisiana. Davis runs a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash can bench 275 and has a 34” vertical leap. Davis is also an excellent student with a 3.7 GPA. Davis was returning punts in the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game.

When did you start playing football and when did you begin to like playing football?

I started playing football when I was six years old and I have liked it ever since then.

What has football taught you about yourself as a person?

Football has taught me that when times get hard keep on pushing keep on working keep on fighting till the end never give up. It has also taught me how to be a young man by building character, being a good sportsman, and being a leader.

Who is your biggest motivator?

My biggest motivator has to be my great grandma and my baby brother who is deceased. They are a big reason why I play football.

What is the best game you ever played in?

The first game of my senior year this year.

Are there any other hobbies you enjoy besides football?

My hobbies include basketball, track, powerlifting, video games, and having fun with my family and friends.

What made you decide to play defensive back?

I love to play defense especially safety. Stopping the offense from scoring and getting interceptions to me is more rewarding than scoring touchdowns on offense,

What is a part of your game that you are trying to improve?

I’m trying to improve my lateral movement.

What would college coaches be most impressed about you?

That I am an athlete, I can play just about any skill position, I am a return specialist too.

What would you like major in while in college?

I would like to major in Criminal Justice because I want to be a lawyer.

How would you describe yourself in one word?

I’m a fighter because I will never give up when times get hard.

What did you think about the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game you played in recently?

I enjoyed the bowl game I wish I could do it every week. I gave it my all and I’m blessed that I got picked to be apart of this event.
