Diamond in The Rough: Malachi Jackson

MMalachi Jackson is a class of 2022 DT for Newberry high school in Newberry, FL. He is 6’4, weighs 225, and sports a 3.2 GPA. Malachi is a great run stopper and plays up to his size. He’s a bully on the field and displays a good bullrush move. Malachi uses his large frame to plug up holes on the line of scrimmage and uses his long arms to either bull rush or bring people down. He is the type of player that is quiet, dependable, responsible, and works in silence.

How long have you been playing football? I started playing at second or third grade.

Do you play any other sports? I also play basketball.

What made you choose to play DE and DT? It’s the trenches where men are made and it’s just fun, you get to dominate and you don’t have a hard job.

What position do you feel you are better at? DT.

Which position do you prefer playing? DE.

Where do you see yourself playing at the next level? I feel like at the next level they’ll slim me down, get me stronger, and make me quicker so I feel like DE will be the best option.

Is there a player that you can compare yourself to? No, I just want to be me.

Is there anyone you look up to? Aaron Donald.

What are you doing to get better? Weight room, lifting and then doing footwork and agility drills.

What stands out about the way you play? I’m coachable anything you need me to do I’ll go do it.

Do you have any goals for this upcoming season? Do better than last year and just have a dominant year.

What sets you apart from others? I’m quiet you can always count on me to show up and I’m going to work.

Can you play any other positions? I played a little bit of linebacker but that was in practice it wasn’t in a game or anything.

What would you consider your biggest strength? My bullrush.

What would you consider to be your biggest weakness? Using my hands, I tend to run into people instead of finessing.

What is the most rewarding part of playing this position? To get to know you did something helpful every play.

Why should colleges be looking into you? I’m just a kid that going to work and is coachable.
