Diamond in The Rough: Lennie Boykin

Lennie Boykin is a class of 2022 T for Newberry High school in Newberry, FL. Lennie stands tall at 6’3, weighs 315lbs, and sports a 2.6 GPA. The dual-sport athlete is very fast and athletic for his size. He does a great job of protecting his quarterback and getting to the next level to make another block. On offense, he can play at both right and left tackle, guard, and TE, and plays DT on defense. Lennie has a rare blend of size, speed, strength, athleticism, and versatility.

How long have you been playing football? I’ve been playing for seven years since middle school.

Do you play any other sports? Basketball.

What made you choose to play Offensive and defensive Tackle? I’m big, my strength, speed, not giving up sacks, and protecting my quarterback.

What do you think is the most important part of playing those positions? Being fast, strong, and confident of what you do. 

What’s the first thing you look at when you line up? My opponent. 

What side of the line do you feel more comfortable at? On offense the right and defense the left.

Where on the line can you play? On offense OT and defense DT.

What position do you see yourself playing at the next level? D-tackle and a little bit of TE. 

What’s the most rewarding part of playing offensive and defensive line? Being a man and being aggressive.

Can you play any other positions? Probably right guard.

Is there a player you can compare yourself to? Michael Oher and Fletcher Cox.

Is there anyone you look up to? Aaron Donald.

What are you doing to get better? I’m trying build more upper body strength and gain more speed, so I get quicker off the line of scrimmage. 

Do you have any goals this season? Get more sacks and get more pancakes. 

What stands out about the way you play? I feel like I have better footwork and strength. I am also good at moving people out of the way and having better vision of seeing what’s going on at the next level.

What position do you feel more comfortable at? D-tackle.

What goes through your mind pre snap? Thinking of my responsibility.
