Diamond in The Rough: Evan Weber

Evan Weber is a class of 2022 middle and outside linebacker for Archbishop Shaw Highschool in Marrero, LA. Weber is 5’11, weighs 220, and has the perfect mindset to play linebacker. He loves to get his hands dirty and be around all the action. His strong mindset has helped him become a three-year starter, overcome injury, and obtain a 3.1 GPA. If there is something that stands out about Evan beside his mentality, it’s his willingness to tackle.

How long have you been playing football? I started playing football at 6yrs old at Pard Playground.

Do you prefer playing inside or outside LB? I like both positions, however due to my ability to read plays, I prefer playing inside. I love being around the action and playing Mike LB is where all the action usually takes place.

Would you consider yourself more of a run stuffer or coverage LB? Definitely a run stuffer.  Being able to read plays before they happen and just clogging a gap to make a play is where I thrive.

What do you enjoy the most about playing LB? The Action. On any given play you have the ability to hit someone and make a tackle.

What skill set do you possess that makes you a good LB? great instincts, I am able avoid blocks, speed to cover skill players, and have the mind set to be able to stuff the run.

Do you have any role models?  I would have to say my head coach, Tommy Connors.  He played the game and taught me how to overcome injury early in my high school career.  When I hurt my shoulder during my 8th grade year, he told me that I’m going to get stronger and better. He also told me that I would be a key contributor early in my high school year. Another role model that I have looked up to throughout my years in high school, is my linebacker coach, Coach Lou Valdin. He taught how to be a complete linebacker. Lastly, my dad, because he taught me how to be the man that I am today and he has also given me the best advice not only in life but also in football.

Is there a player that you can compare your play style to? Luke Kuechly.  He was a fast moving and solid play maker.  When he made tackles, he did it with intensity and that is how I try to line up on each play.

Is there something you are known for on the field or in the locker room?  On the field, my coaches and teammates would say that I am a sure tackler and in the locker room I’m kind of quiet and typically focus on practice or game while listening to my music.

Do you prefer covering a TE or a RB? I would say TE, however we usually play zone coverage.

What does football mean to you? Competition and Family.  Competing in football not only helps you on the field, but also in life. You will always have to compete in life whether it is at a job interview or any other obstacles you may face.  I will forever love my teammates and coaches.  They are my family.

Why should colleges be looking into you? Because I am a smart player not only on the field, but also in school. I am a perfectionist when it comes to obtaining my goals.  Colleges should know that I will give it my all 100% every time and that losing is not an option of mine.

Has football taught you any valuable lessons? Yes, football has taught me how to be a team player.  It also taught me that in life, it’s not how many times you fall down, but how many times you get back up.  Lastly, it has taught me that nothing in life is given to you.  You have to work hard for everything you set your mind to do. Working hard and giving it my all has helped me become a 3 year starter at Arch Shaw.

Why did you choose to play LB? As a child, I was one of the bigger kids and growing up every coach put me in the middle to make plays or blitz the QB. From there I just fell in love with the position.

Is there anything you want to throw out there for people to know? I am a sneakerhead.  I probably own around 40 pairs of shoes.
