Diamond in the Rough: Clayton Davis

Clayton Davis is a class of 2022 Wide Receiver out of Lincoln County High school in Stanford, Kentucky. Clayton stands at 5’11, 180 pounds and is just a flat out playmaker. He possess the versatility to line up at wide receiver and even sometimes as a wild cat threat to absolutely kill defenses. Not only can Clayton dust defenders with his speed, he’s also a tough, physical runner with the ball in his hands. So far this season, Clayton has amassed 64 receptions for 1,071 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the ground, he has 58 carries for 585 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also has 52 tackles and an interception on the season, so I think its fair to label this guy as an athlete. He’s the number 1 receiver in the state of Kentucky and has broken almost every receiving record for Lincoln High. Clayton also boasts a 3.7 GPA to go with his on the field accolades.

When did you start playing football and who motivated you to do so?

I started playing in 5th grade. I went straight to tackle football I didn’t play flag. I was motivated by my friends. I saw them playing so I tried it out and football was actually fun.

How would you describe your style of play on the football field?

I’m quick, fast, and aggressive. If you get me the ball in open space I’m dangerous and will make plays.

What were some goals you set for yourself this season? What goals would you like your team to accomplish?

The main goal for myself was getting to 1,000 yards receiving on the season. For my team, I want us to win district and make a run in the state playoffs.

What are some things you can improve within your own skillset?

I can improve my speed, gain more weight, and work on my footwork. I also do catching drills to work on my hands.

What can a college coach expect to get from you in their program?

A player that works hard, is dedicated, and is a great guy in the classroom and on the field.

What lessons has the game of football taught you?

Football has helped me become mentally and physically stronger. We had a slump during the season, losing games we shouldn’t have. We picked each other up and got back on track winning games.

What sets you apart from other wide receivers?

My blocking ability and route running. I play the game very aggressively and always try to make plays on the ball.

How do you want your coaches and teammates to remember you once your senior year ends?

I want them to remember me as a hard worker in the weight room, on the field, and just as a good player.
