Can you tell us your name and position on the football team?

Nik Alston, Defensive Lineman.

What made you decide to play football in high school?

I’ve been playing football all my life so I decided to take my talents through high school.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced on the field?

Just staying focused, considering the crowd noise and everything that goes on during a game.

How do you motivate yourself when things get tough during a game?

I like to think about my Granny and Family and this keeps me motivated. My team is another big reason why I can stay motivated during a tough game, when thinking about how badly they want to win.

What do you think sets you apart from other players on your team?

My hunger and work ethic. My mindset about how I won’t be outworked makes me unique.

Can you talk about a moment in your football career that you’re particularly proud of?

During Little league Football, I once made a big play and watching my mother’s reaction made me proud.

How do you handle the pressure of being an important player on the team?

I handle the pressure well because I work hard and it is hard to feel pressure when you work really hard.

How do you balance football and your academic studies?

I manage my academics pretty well with athletics. My mom is able to help me manage things I may need help with. I try my hardest to put my grades first before coming onto the field.

What have you learned about teamwork through playing football?

Helping your teammates by being a good leader is important. Mostly when a team sees their leader doing something then they will follow their lead. This gives everyone a positive attitude.

Can you describe your pre-game ritual or superstitions?

Hyping my teammates up and playing music gets me in a hype mood for the game.

Who is your biggest inspiration or role model in the sport of football?

My brother, Quay Walker. By watching him and being with him, he has made me better at the sport of football.

How do you stay physically and mentally prepared for each game?

I like to think about who I am doing this for. The grind each week keeps me prepared for Friday nights.

What are your goals for the future, both on and off the field?

Off the field I want to be able to take care of my family. On the field I would like to ball out and take football to the next level and however far I can take it.

What advice would you give to young aspiring football players?

I would tell them to stay focused and don’t let offers get to your head. If you stay humble, pray at night, and don’t let anyone get in the way of your goal then you’ll be successful.

What do you hope to achieve with your football career in the future?

I would like to make it to the NFL. Hopefully being on a big stage at the college level can help propel me that far.
