D.I.T.R: DJ Bailey

DJ Bailey is one of the leaders coming back to the DeSoto Eagles this upcoming fall. The Class of 2024 prospect is coming off leading the team to a Texas 6A-Division II State Championship. He is a 5’11 201 pound quarterback that finished his junior campaign with 45 passing and 5 rushing touchdowns. The talented gun slinger is ready for another breakout season to prove to colleges that he has what it takes to play at the next level.

Here is DJ Bailey’s interview with me.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing football when I was five.

Have you played other sports outside of football?

I played basketball up until eight grade.

What was it like to lead your team to a State Championship this past year?

It was good. I had to be a leader both on and off the field. I had to make sure everyone in the locker room was on track and I am glad the seniors got a championship.

Is there a NCAA/NFL player that you would compare yourself to?

Cam Newton…He is a big and powerful quarterback that has a strong arm and can run the ball.

Do you have a favorite football moment in your young career?

Of course, I would say when growing up and beating everyone in football and winning a ring at 13, I still have that ring.

What has Coach Mathis done to improve your football career?

He has taught me to a leader. Coach is great to talk to both on and off the field. He has made me into a vocal leader for the team.

What are your senior goals this upcoming season at DeSoto?

I want to win another state championship. The seniors got one last year, I want to get a state championship my senior year.

How do you succeed as a teammate?

Picking everybody up, making sure no one is down throughout the game. Your not doing this for yourself but also for your teammates.

What are future colleges getting out of you?

My hard-work and dedication both on and off the football field. I want coaches to see that I’m more than a leader. I like talking to my teammates about not just football, but about life.

Where do you see yourself a year from now on Signing Day?

In a year, I will be smiling while choosing a college with my whole family behind me.

How can you improve your game over the next year?

Getting faster, I want to add another dimension to my game. I want other people to see me as a real threat with my legs.
