D.I.T.R: Daedrion “Buddha” Garrett

Daedrion Garrett is a 6’0 195 pound athlete that plays in the secondary for the Longview Lobos. “Buddha”, as they call him, is one of the most intriguing Seniors returning to the Lobos this upcoming season. The safety has incredible speed that enables him to fly and make punishing tackles to his opponents. He was one of the major defensive pieces in the Longview run this past season falling just one game short of the state title game. Recently, his recruiting has been heating up picking up offers from Arkansas State, Boston College, and Weber State. Garrett has hopes of having a great Senior season and bringing a state championship back to Longview.

Here is Daedrion Garrett’s interview with me.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing flag football at 3 years old.

What are some hobbies you like to do outside of school?

I like to read and hangout with family. I am a big family guy.

Have you played other sports outside of football?

I played AAU basketball and track for the Lobos.

What was it like playing for Longview this past year?

It was amazing… The team had all the pieces that worked together. We had one of the best defenses in the state I would say. We only allowed nine points per game against us.

Is there a NCAA/NFL player that you would compare yourself to?

I would say Buddha Baker and Derwin James Jr. I love to hit and their intentions on the field is to hit somebody.

What skills do you have that sets yourself from the others?

I’m always the smartest one on the field. I am real big film guy and I feel like I’m always the quarterback on the defense.

Who pushes you to be better through your football journey?

My mom most definitely… She was a coach, so her words about what I need to do to get to the next level is meaningful for me since she has played at the next level.

What has Coach King done to improve your football career?

I have known him since I was little. He has always told me to be patient and how to be an athlete. Patience is key.

What are your senior goals while at Longview?

I want to win a State Championship at Longview. I want to be first team All-State and lead the district in tackles, turnovers, and pass deflections for safeties. Also, I want to cause more turnovers because I feel like I didn’t cause enough last season.

How do you succeed as a teammate?

I’m the leader, so I help keep teammates heads up and work with the short term memory loss of the game.

What are future colleges getting out of you?

A ball player… A smart player that wont do anything to put his career in jeopardy. First person in the gym and the last one to leave. You are getting a quarterback for the defense.

Where do you see yourself a year from now on signing day?

I hope to go to a college that best fits me. A school that has a great education because I am an education first player.

How can you improve your game over the next year?

I want to be more ball hungry. I didn’t cause enough turnovers like my peers around me. Also, I want to work more on being a vocal leader for the team.
