Colonels Win Big Thursday Night

Thibodaux, LA- Things started off nicely for the Colonels as they comfortably went down the field on the opening drive for a 67-yard touchdown drive. Chase Fourcade was first to score on an 8-yard scramble run. The Colonels would take an early 7-0 lead.

Lamar wouldn’t get things going until the beginning of the 2^nd Quarter as they made a drive deep into Nicholls’ territory. However, a stingy Colonel defense would keep them out of the end zone and hold the Cardinals to just a field goal. The Colonels are still ahead 7-3.

Chase Fourcade would strike back quickly on a 25-yard pass to Damion Jeanpiere. A couple of 1^st downs helped the Colonels move down the field quickly before striking on the touchdown pass. McKey’s conversion was good to put the Colonels ahead 14-3.

Hezekiah White would come up with an interception on the Cardinal’s 16-yard line to give the Colonels great field position to score before halftime. Mason Boudreaux would pound the ball in a few plays later from 4 yards out for the touchdown. Nicholls State would take a comfortable 21-3 lead with under two minutes left to play in the 1^st half.

It was a rather slow start to the 2^nd half as neither team got much going and both teams exchanged a couple of punts. It was Kyran Irvin who busted through on a 78-yard run to put the Colonels on the oppositional 2–yard line. They handed it off to Mason Boudreaux once again and he would punch through for the touchdown. The conversion was good to bring the score to 28-3.

Chase Fourcade rushed for his 2^nd touchdown of the evening on a 3-yard run. Fourcade found success on the ground all evening as the Cardinals struggled to stop him. He found several players down the field to move the chains before taking it in for the touchdown. Nicholls State would go ahead 35-3 in the 4^th Quarter.

The Cardinals were desperate for points all night as they kept trying to get something going. They moved the ball pretty well but always found themselves in turnover trouble when they got on the other half of the field. Zae Giles was wide open on a 13-yard pass that gave the Cardinals their first touchdown on the night. The conversion attempt was good to bring the score to 35-10.

The Colonels controlled the ball most of the game thanks to the successful running game by Chase Fourcade. The Colonels would go on to win 35-10. The defense played outstanding as they held the Cardinals to just one touchdown the whole night. The Colonels go to a 5-4 overall record on the year as the head to Central Arkansas next week.
