Former Gridiron Football Junior High All-American CJ Aguillard wowed Grambling coaches earlier this week by running a 4.44/40 at the Mickey Joseph Grambling Football Camp, which was the fastest time at the camp.
“Well, my goal heading into the camp was to get the offer because my grandpa, he went to Grambling State and it plays a big part of my family. So yes, my goal was to get an offer and I wanted to run as fast as I could and I knew I could do it.”

The Livonia Wildcat thought that his first 40 time was okay, but after hearing what he ran the first time from his trainer Keith Ballard, he knew that his goal was attainable of running a really good 40.
“After I ran the first one, I felt like I did okay, but then, he told me the time was a 4.5 so my training coach, my trainer, Keith Ballard, he walked up to me and he told me, you know, go up there, bust it open. You can run a 4.4 and that’s what I did. He actually clocked it on the sideline and got the same time as the person clocking it on the field: 4.44 so it was a very happy and exciting moment.”

It was an exciting moment for the Grambling coaches as well as they have immediately offered Aguillard after the run.
“It was at the camp. It was at the camp. It was like mid one-on-ones. The coach came up to me and offered me. It made me want to go even harder the rest of the camp and it made me want to come home to work out more, but my trainer, Keith, told me I need to rest, so I’m going to just take a little break right now.”

The speedy Aguillard carried on that momentum from the 40 to those 1v1s and that solidified the Grambling coaching staff’s belief in him.
“You know, the 40 is important from a recruiting aspect because, of course, the coaches are going to know what you run. but showing your actual receiver skills is the most important part because at the end of the day, we’re playing football.”
“I just wanted to go out there and show that my speed can translate to my route running. It can translate to my actual ability and playmaking on the field and that’s what I showed off at the camp. That’s why the coach gave me an opportunity, and I’m grateful for it.”

This is Aguillard’s first DI offer and he hopes that could carry onto other opportunities. Even though the Grambling offer means a whole lot to him personally and to his family, he is open for any opportunity that is given to him.
“I’m going to continue working out in the summer with my team because my high school team is going to come first doing seven on seven, but I will be also attending the Northwestern camp in Lafayette and the Southern University camp.”
“Really, I’m just grateful with any opportunity any coach puts in me, like this Grambling offer is a big deal. Any coach that puts their faith in me, like LSU, hometown, it’s a big college out here. Louisiana Tech, Tulane, just Northwestern, Southern University, all the colleges that would be willing to give me opportunity, I’m 100% into looking into.”

Aguillard feels that his speed is only one of many things that he brings to the table at the position. The 5’8, 155 pound receiver takes something from four of the best wide receivers out there in order to try and be the most complete receiver he can be.
“I’m not the biggest receiver. First, I use my speed to my advantage so when it comes to size, I never doubt myself because I always feel like I’m the best on the field. Second, I actually have a good ability to go up and get the ball. If you watch my film, you can actually see that. A lot of people don’t know that about me, and number three, I feel like I’m a natural playmaker. I can make tough catches. It just feels natural when I’m out there in that football field.”
“The guys I look up to are like Tyreek Hill in the NFL. He’s not too big, but he’s a dog. I also look up to Zay Flowers, Tank Dell for the Texans, and Aaron Anderson that plays for LSU. I look up to different guys that are able to use their speed to overcome their size and do great things on the field.”

Entering his junior season, Aguillard has already showed his playmaking ability for the Wildcats making All-District as a sophomore in 2024 with 1,441 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns. Making the transition from his sophomore year to his junior year, he is focusing on being more of a leader for his team while working on his own game.
“I think my hands are good, but working on consistency more and also just working on being smoother with my routes.”
“My goal going into my junior year is to help my team to a winning season this year. Be a leader and a team captain that my teammates can look up to.”

Getting an offer is only adding fuel to the fire for CJ Aguillard to showcase what he can do. Add in the fact that he has a 3.5 GPA, his stock is only rising.
“I’m willing to put my head down and work for every opportunity you give me. I’m willing to be coachable. I’m a good student, and I got much love for the game of football.”
