Earlier today, Catholic High School five star wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. announced his college commitment. At the Catholic High School gym in front of his family, friends, teachers, and teammates, the 6’4, 180 pound dynamic receiver announced his decision to stay home and commit to the LSU Tigers.
“It means a lot just to stay home. It’s all about putting on for my city and my state.”
Sampson chose the Tigers over Florida State, Texas A&M, and Alabama. This is a big pickup for the Tigers as he is the third wide receiver commit in LSU’s 2023 class joining wide receiver Kyle Parker from Lovejoy High School in Texas and Jalen Brown from Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida. He is also the 18th commitment from this class and the fourth from the state of Louisiana, but the first to be a five star commit for this current 2023 class.
Now, Sampson Jr., who is the son of former Redemptorist standout and Louisiana Tech running back Shelton Sampson Sr., can now focus on his senior season for the Catholic High School Bears after leading the team to a Division I State Championship with 40 catches for 932 yards and eight touchdowns.
