BREAKING NEWS: Pope John Paul II High School (Slidell, LA) DE DeReyon Jenkins Commits To 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game

The Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game has been known for having talented defensive linemen and the next one that will be playing in this year’s game is Pope John Paul II High School (Slidell, LA) defensive end DeReyon Jenkins Jr.

DJ as we call him is what anybody looks for when looking at a talented edge rusher. He is long at 6’4, 215 pounds with an 80″ wing span, but DJ also has a great motor, 4.8/40 speed, the ability to chase down quarterbacks, and also defends the run quite nicely for a defensive end as well.

The Pope John Paul II Jaguars are on pace to having their best season in program history and the long, rangy defender has played a huge part in that. Since being able to play in Week 4, DJ has put up some impressive numbers including 40 tackles, five sacks, 11 TFLs, two quarterback hurries, and a fumble recovery in just five games played.

However, this type of production is not new for him. Previously at Salmen High School, DJ made 1st Team All-District and All-Parish last season with 112 tackles (35 solo, 77 assists), 8 sacks, 19 QB hurries, 12 TFLs, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and even scored on a defensive touchdown. Throughout his prep career, he has been an All-State Honorable Mention, an All-Parish, and a two time All-District selection.

Being all over the field as a quarterback’s worst nightmare has garnered him some college attention with Lafayette, Central Arkansas, UCF, and Grambling having already offered DJ to play football at the next level as he has a 3.68 GPA in the classroom.

After being a part of two Gridiron Football Elite Camps that have helped him develop to be the player he is today, DJ Jenkins will finish his high school career by playing in this year’s Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game that will occur on Monday, December 30th at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“I think it’s going to be a fun experience being able to network with other guys going to the same level as me and get to show my skills against good competition.”
