Hammond High School (Hammond, LA) running back Zalen Bennett has committed to play in the 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Louisiana Christian University on Tuesday, December 30th.
Rated as a three star by Gridiron Football, Bennett is one of the most underrated running backs in the state of Louisiana as a workhorse back for Dorsett Buckels and the Hammond Tornadoes. The last two years, Bennett has been the engine behind an improving Tornadoes football program.
He has certainly played a big role in that by not only having back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, but he followed a 2nd Team All-District campaign as a junior when he rushed for 1,400 yards with a 1st Team All-District campaign this year. In his senior season “Deuce” as he is nicknamed finished his senior year with 150 carries for 1,300 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns while adding over 100 yards and another touchdown receiving.
Making the playoffs the last two seasons, Coach Buckels can agree that Bennett was the one that helped get the Tornadoes back into the playoff conversation.
At 6’1, 190 pounds with 4.5/40 speed, Bennett is a dynamic running back that can break off the long running play, but at the same time, he is also elusive, slippery, and just hard to tackle making him an electrifying playmaker.
His ability as a running back has drawn the attention of multiple colleges as he has received offers from Southern, Louisiana Christian University, and Tuskegee University. Before the season, Bennett received an offer to play in the 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game at our annual media day. He is excited to have one more game to showcase his talents while having another opportunity to showcase his talents in front of college coaches.
