The Houma area has produced plenty of talent and it looks like there is another up and coming player that is starting to put himself on the map, and that is Houma Christian WR Jamar Celestine. Only a current eighth grader, Celestine has already drawn the attention of major DI programs including the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, which officially offered him yesterday.
“I couldn’t believe that I got an offer. I know most 8th graders don’t receive an offer and as soon as I got it, I called my mom and I was jumping up and down.”

To receive an offer from a school like that at an early age is rare. For the Ragin’ Cajuns, they saw a lot of special qualities already in him to pull the trigger and offer him at a young age.
“What impressed them the most is my speed, route running, and my stopping ability. The coaches were really impressed by that.”
“Speed, agility, balance, stamina, and route running are all qualities that I can bring to the table.”

The 14 year old rising star has tremendous upside as he uses those skills to become a dynamic receiver, but at the same time, he understands that this is only the beginning.
“I can improve on everything. I can be faster, stronger, and catch the ball better. I feel the only way to get better is to continue to work and improve on my abilities.”

Being a student of the game, Celestine wants to take bits and pieces from different players and add it to his arsenal.
“Two players in college that I model my game after are Jordan Tyson and Ryan Williams. I like Jordan Tyson’s route running, size, length, physicality, and the way he plays. I like Ryan Williams because of his speed, quickness, and shiftiness. In the NFL, I like Ja’Marr Chase. He brings everything to the table in terms of catching, route running, and ability after the catch.”

When it comes to a school, Celestine does not have a favorite school or a top school in mind, but he is going to take the recruiting process seriously and go to a place that fits him the most.
“The things that my dad told me were to look for a strong schematic fit, where I fit in the offense, and how much playing time I would get.”

Celestine has a high football IQ as well being around his dad Jamar Celestine Sr., who is the current head football coach at Houma Christian.
“Being around him is just an amazing experience. He has lots of knowledge of the game. I know this is what he has been doing for years. I know I can trust him for any advice and if I have any questions or any concerns.”

As mentioned earlier, there have been profile examples of players that received DI offers from schools when they were either in eighth or ninth grade. Another example is former LSU five star and current Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Maason Smith, who received his first offer in ninth grade. Like Smith, Celestine wants to use this offer as motivation to help put not only Houma, but his school Houma Christian on the map.
“I want to prove that no matter where you go or where you are from, you can do anything that you set your mind to, but you just need to trust in God first.”

In middle school, Celestine has shown his potential early on as he accounted for over 700 yards and 15 touchdowns before earning starting time on the varsity team as an eighth grader with over 500 receiving yards and a touchdown. Entering his freshman year, he has even more goals to try and achieve.
“My goals this year are to hit at least 700 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.”

Along with football, Jamar Celestine Jr. is a three-sport athlete that also plays basketball and runs track. Being a multi-sport athlete only elevates his ability even more.
“Playing basketball and running track keeps me well conditioned. It keeps my mind focused and I just love to compete against other people.”

It only takes one offer for a player to get noticed and there is no question that this is only the beginning for Jamar Celestine Jr.
“One thing I will tell college coaches is that nobody will outwork me or outcompete me.”
