Zachary proves to be too much for Sulpher 42-17

The first round of playoff football is in full swing for the 5A high schools tonight. In Zachary, Louisiana, the Zachary Broncos faced off against the Sulphur Golden Tors beginning the game with a salute to Broncos alumni whom is a veteran in honor of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday. The Broncos are the defending state champions looking for a chance to win their third state championship in four years. A hard fought first half between the two teams seemed for an entertaining second half, but the Broncos pitched a near shut out proving to be too much for the Golden Tors.

The quarterbacks of both teams went back and forth driving their teams down the field in the first half. #7 Jacob Clark of Sulphur passed for over 210 yards with incredible precision and anticipation. The sophomore quarterback impressed tonight against a defense with multiple athletes who will play at the next level. #23 Tyler Judsen who is committed to Ole Miss, #93 Caleb Jackson, #34 Taylor Milton and #22 Caleb Knighten who are all uncommitted all had crucial roles in shutting out the Sulphur offense in the second half until reserves gave up a touchdown on the final drive of the game. The turning point in the game was after a 14-10 half; the Broncos marched down the field opening the second half with a strong drive ending in a touchdown. The Golden Tors responded with a drive that ended in a risky fourth down attempt at the 50-yard line that resulted in another Broncos touchdown drive. Then on the following drive, #34 Taylor Milton had a athletic, leaping interception that saved a touchdown.

#15 quarterback Keilon Brown is playing like an All-State player yet again. Leading his team to victory tonight with over 180 yards through the air and 167 rushing yards. Tossing a game sealing 55-yard touchdown to star wide receiver #19, Chandler Whitfield who is committed to play at Nicholls proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Sulphur.

As the Sulphur Golden Tors’ season ends tonight, the Zachary Broncos will play the Hahnville Eagles in the second round of the playoffs next Friday.
