Week 2 Gridiron Football Louisiana Player Of The Week: Ouachita Junior RB Carldell Sirmons

Gridiron Football Louisiana Player Of The Week Previous Winners:

Week 1: St. Edmund High School Freshman Running Back Kevon Johnson

For the second week in a row, Gridiron Football awards a high school player of the week in Louisiana. Last week, it was St. Edmund High School freshman running back Kevon Johnson, who had an incredible varsity debut by being on top of the inaugural Louisiana Player of the Week Award.

For Week 2, Jace LeJeune and Gridiron Football intern Will Harper went through the list of the top seven standout performers this week. All seven players were submitted by coaches through our form that Jace sends out to all the high school coaches via email or by text. By Friday morning, if you are a head coach in Louisiana and if you haven’t received an email regarding Louisiana Player of the Week for Week 3, please email Jace at ja****************@gm***.com. The deadline to submit your player of the week nomination for Week 3 is Sunday, September 18th at 6:00 P.M.

Now, with that being said, our Week 2 Gridiron Football Louisiana Player of the Week is Ouachita High School junior running back Carldell Sirmons. Sirmons is coming off a dynamic performance against one of the state’s powerhouse football programs in Neville High School. Sirmons, who is only 5’7, 160 pounds, has playmaking 4.35/40 speed, and he showcased that against the Tigers with 262 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 24 carries while also having 96 kick return yards and even posting an interception on defense. Sirmons was a one man show for the Lions as his incredible performance helped his team notch a 43-29 victory over the Neville Tigers.

Tomorrow, make sure to check out The Chase With Jace as I interview Ouachita head coach Todd Garvin and Carldell Sirmons about Carldell winning our player of the week award! The Chase With Jace will premiere on our YouTube channel and Facebook page for 7:00 P.M. tomorrow night!

Honorable Mentions:

2. Captain Shreve High School senior RB Jayden Edwards:

The Captain Shreve Gators have started the season 2-0 under first year head coach Adam Kirby and a lot of it has to do with its bell cow running back Jayden Edwards, who had 39 carries for 210 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-14 victory over Calvary Baptist.

3. East Beauregard High School senior FB/DE Gage Hildreth:

East Beauregard High School senior fullback/defensive end Gage Hildreth was a definition of an iron man in Week Two as a standout player for the Trojans. The 6’0, 235 pound two way star bulldozed the Pickering Red Devils defense for 280 yards and five touchdowns off 24 carries. Also, by the way, he also had eight tackles on defense to boot in a 66-42 victory for his team.

4. Parkview Baptist High School senior TE/LB Micah Johnson:

Parkview Baptist High School senior tight end/linebacker Micah Johnson is another two way star and is one of the biggest sleepers in the area flying under the radar as he has offers from in-state schools like Southeastern, Nicholls State, and Northwestern State to name a few. His performance helped the Eagles get a 21-7 victory over Catholic High School New Iberia as he made the Panthers’ life a living hell flying all over the field with 13 tackles and having a game clinching 51 yard interception return for a touchdown to help the Eagles fly to a 2-0 start this season.

5. Plaquemine High School senior safety Jaedan Paul:

In speaking of players that gave opposing offenses nightmares, that is exactly what Plaquemine High School senior safety Jaedan Paul did last week in a 44-14 victory against McKinley High School. The senior defensive back was around the football all night not only with just six tackles, but he also had two interceptions returned for touchdowns including a 40 yard return and a 20 yard return to help put 12 points on the board for his team. Here is a good PSA for offensive coaches out there. Do not throw the ball in number four’s direction because he will make you pay!

6. Eunice High School senior WR Tylon Cooper:

The Eunice Bobcats may not throw the football a while lot, but when they do, they throw the football to Tylon Cooper’s direction. Last week, in a 39-14 victory over Jennings, Cooper had five catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns. His performance also helped him receive an offer from Centenary College this past weekend as well. It was a pretty good couple of days for the Bobcats’ top target.

7. Comeaux High School senior WR Jaylon Domingeaux:

After producing Malik Nabers, who is now playing for the LSU Tigers, the Comeaux Spartans have another talented wide receiver this year in Jaylon Domingeaux, who is coming off an impressive performance in week one against St. Thomas More, and had himself another performance in week two against Lafayette High School hitting the century mark again with five catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. At 6’4, 188 pounds with 4.5/40 speed, Domingeaux is another player to keep an eye on this season for the Spartans.

High School coaches, keep an eye out for a text and email later this week from Jace and to fill out the form if you have a player that should be considered for the Gridiron Football player of the week!
