Two Lions win SLC POTW Awards for Week 8 Performances

On Monday, it was announced that two Southeastern players, Victor Tademy and Tristian Goodly, received Southland Conference Player of the Week honors for their on-field performances, which led the way for the Lions to defeat Northwestern State and pick up their first victory on the season.

Tademy, a senior defensive back, won the conference’s Defensive POTW award. A native of Arkadelphia, AR, and a transfer from Harvard, Tademy has been one of the most consistent and reliable defenders on this unit. Tademy tied two others in leading the team with 10 tackles this week, alongside an interception that he returned 58 yards for a touchdown. Tademy has recorded 36 tackles and a fumble recovery, and this interception was his first of the season. Tademy is the second Lion to win this award in 2023, after Ian Conerly-Goodly won in Week 1.

Tristian Goodly won the Special Teams POTW award, joining Austin Dunlap as the only other Lion to win this award in 2023 (Dunlap won in back-to-back weeks earlier this season). Goodly, a freshman wide receiver from Westlake, LA, returned 2 kickoffs for 65 yards, including a 48-yard return. These were Goodly’s first statistics recorded on the season.

SLU has not seen an offensive player win the POTW award yet this season. The winner for Week 8 was Richard Torres, the backup UIW quarterback and Nebraska transfer, who threw for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns, and ran for another in the Cardinals’ win over McNeese this week.
