Two Lions take home Southland Player of the Week Honors in First Three Games

For his performance this Saturday against Eastern Washington, Austin Dunlap was able to capture his fifth ever Special Teams of the Week honors in his career. The senior Punter adds the award to his long list of accolades, including multiple all-academic team appearances, a 2022 all-Southland conference first team selection, and a semifinalist for the best punter in the FCS last season. The Northshore High School graduate and Slidell native averaged 48.0 yards per punt, an impressive feat which rivals the best punters in the NFL, and even booted a 63-yarder that set EWU back far into their own territory. There’s no doubt that Dunlap will get NFL and other professional looks this offseason.

Ian Goodly earned the Southland Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance two weeks ago against Mississippi State. Goodly totaled 15 tackles, 8 of which were solo, and set the benchmark for the most tackles in a game by one player for the Lions in the last three years. The defensive back and Covington native continues to lead the team in tackles after three games played this season.
