Tulane Football Inks 22 During Early Signing Period Green Wave welcomes new signing class for the 2018 season

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football hit the new December early signing period with a splash, as head coach Willie Fritz announced 22 initial signees on Wednesday.

The Green Wave’s 2018 early signing class boasts additions from seven states, including eight players from Louisiana. The group is composed of 11 players on offense (one quarterback, four offensive linemen, three running backs, two wide receivers and one tight end), 10 on the defensive side (five defensive backs and five defensive linemen) and one punter.

“We signed a fantastic class,” Fritz said. “We signed 22 players, and eight of them are from the state of Louisiana. We wanted to make sure we did a good job of recruiting in-state and locally. We got 11 on the offensive side of the ball, 10 on the defensive side of the ball and also a punter. It’s a very well-represented class on both sides of the football.”

Fritz’ crop of initial signees includes 15 three-star recruits: Larry Brooks (DB/Kennedale, Texas/Kennedale HS), Dorian Camel (DB/Baton Rouge, La./Scotlandville Magnet), Christian Daniels (QB/Elon, N.C./Western Alamance HS), Carlos Hatcher (DE/Carrolton, Texas/Hebron HS), Nik Hogan (OL/Flowood, Miss./Northwest Rankin HS), Jamiran James (DL/New Orleans/De La Salle HS), Tyrick James (TE/China Spring, Texas/China Spring HS), Jeffery Johnson (DL/Brookhaven, Miss./Brookhaven HS), Amare Jones (RB/Frisco, Texas/Heritage HS), Juan Monjarres (DE/New Orleans/St. Augustine HS), Jason Swann (OL/Pembroke Pines, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas School), Damien Tate (DB/New Orleans/Warren Easton HS), Jorien Vallien (WR/Alexandria, La./Alexandria Senior High), Davon Wright (DL/Donaldsonville, La./Donaldsonville HS), Ryan Wright (P/San Ramon, Calif./California HS).

Notable among the Green Wave’s signees, eight elected to stay home in Louisiana: Camel, Jamiran James, Monjarres, Tate, Vallien, Davon Wright, Macon Clark (DB/Destrehan, La./Destrehan HS) and Michael Remondet (OL/Youngsville, La./Ascension Episcopal School). Five additional signees hail from Texas – Brooks, Hatcher, Tyrick James, Jones and Sorrell Brown (WR/Arlington, Texas/Martin HS) – four come from Florida – Booker, Swann, and Stephen Lewerenz (OL/Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) – and three from Mississippi – Hogan, Johnson and Cameron Carroll (RB/Flowood, Miss./Northwest Rankin HS).

“We were going for quality,” Fritz said. “Obviously, you have go to positionally as well, getting guys across the board at each position. We’d like to have a good spread of talent across the board so we’re not panicking one year when we’re losing a bunch of guys at one position. It’s a good class, and we’ve very, very excited about it.”
