Tulane Falls Short in 24-6 Loss to Auburn

After a 42-14 route of FIU, the Tulane Green Wave came up short this week, dropping the ball in a 24-6 loss to the Auburn Tigers.

Offensively, Tulane found little success against a stout Auburn defense.

Tulane QB Justin McMillan struggled to get things going through the air, completing only 30% of his passes (10-33) while gifting the Auburn defense an interception midway through the 3rd quarter.

Rushing yards were hard to come by as well, with QB McMillan accounting for nearly half of the Wave’s yardage on the ground with 54 yards. Workhorse back Darius Bradwell carried the ball 12 times but only amounted to 30 yards. Offensively, Tulane struggled to move the ball much against arguably the best defensive line in the SEC.

Defensively, Green Wave fans should be proud of the effort and effectiveness displayed. The Tulane defense held Auburn to 379 total yards and forced 2 turnovers. The killer for the Wave defense was 3rd down play. Auburn completed 10/19 3rd downs, compared to Tulane’s 2/15.

Moving forward, Tulane must get better on 3rd down conversions to compete in the AAC.

Defensively, the Green Wave look solid, but the offense must summon similar proficiency shown in their season opener against FIU if they have any hope of winning the AAC.
