St. Charles Catholic Narrowly Escapes Lutcher with a 16-14, Last-Second Victory

On Friday night, the Comets of St. Charles Catholic High School traveled to Lutcher to face the Lutcher High School Bulldogs. It was destined to be a great matchup, as both teams are reigning state champions at their respective levels. It was a grueling game throughout, which saw a lot of punting and great defense, and not much scoring, but in the end, SCCHS came out ahead thanks to a game-winning field goal from Tyler Milioto as time expired.

Unfortunately, the Comets did not record statistics. What we do know is that Comets quarterback Brady St. Pierre looked sharp, throwing for 192 yards, including a 78 yard throw to his tight end early in the game. Running backs Jeremiah Wills and Skyler Edwards each scored once on the ground. It was a pretty balanced rushing attack overall. On defense, it was senior Nathan Englade who recorded the only takeaway of the game, although the ball was put on the ground a couple other times.

For Lutcher, senior Quinn Smith had an up-and-down game, completing slightly under 50% of his passes for 165 yards and an interception, but made some nice throws in the pocket to help lead both scoring drives. Another senior Brock Louque, scored both touchdowns on just 2 carries for 9 yards.

The bulk of the rushing attack for Lutcher came from Trenton Chaney, who totaled 47 yards on 13 carries. Dameium Marcell led the team with 2 catches for 43 yards, including this huge play to set up the second Louque touchdown:

In the end, it came down to the foot of Tyler Milioto. After missing an extra point earlier in the quarter, fans held their breath, but the sophomore was able to convert and the Comets walked it off. Watch Milioto’s and head coach Wayne Stein’s thoughts here:

Lutcher travels down to Vandebilt Catholic in Houma for a road game in two weeks, following a bye. SCCHS heads home to play Teurlings Catholic next Friday.
