Southeastern Football Practice Report – Day 7

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team’s progress towards the 2018 season continued with a morning workout Tuesday morning at Strawberry Stadium.

The Lions continued to see highlights on both sides of the ball. During team competition, a long catch and run for a touchdown by junior tight end Bransen Schwebel on a pass from junior Lorenzo Nunez was one of the highlight plays on the offensive end.

“Our offensive execution was much improved today,” Southeastern head coach Frank Scelfo commented. “I thought the offense dominated the practice today.”

The defense had its moments during game-type situations as well. Junior defensive back Xavier Lewis made a nice break on a short pass for an interception.

Scelfo was hesitant to single out any position group for its performance during the first seven days of camp.

“We’ve seen flashes of good things from every position,” Scelfo commented. “But we haven’t yet seen the consistency from any one position group where you could say that they would be a dominant group. There’s certainly been positive signs throughout the team, but we’re looking for more consistency.”

Precipitation has only been an issue for one practice through the first seven days, but high temperatures have been a constant. SLU found a way to beat the heat on Tuesday, as the Lions were treated to post-practice snowballs.

SLU will return to the practice field on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Southeastern opens the 2018 season on Aug. 30 with a 7 p.m. contest at ULM.
